LAUTECH: Now That The Fallen Empire Has Refused To Rise - PART 1

By: Apagunpote Olayimika Chocomilo

I have restrained myself from writing about LAUTECH's unfortunate saga that has engulfed the activities of this great institution for months. It's deliberate. The reason is not far fetched. Students are tired of reading epistles, they want to read their books and the unintelligent approach employed in resolving LAUTECH's crisis through political visits by students and external contributors are reasons why I kept mute because the reopening of LAUTECH lies with the visitors and member unions and this could be only achieved through shifting of grounds by both parties. This article is meant for the wise and intelligent ones; if you are not one, do not bother to read it at all.

"When the purported date announced for resumption by some students has been cancelled by the same students and the gospel of hope has vanquished from the lips of the preachers and confusion thrives in our dear institution; there is a need for clarification and the truth needs to be told even if it is bitter". We(ladokites) have spent our better days with high hopes that we will surely resume before July ends. Now that July has ended and the school is still under closure, the time to think out of the box is now.

They hate bitter truths and they've allowed people who use torchlights as source of light in daylight and men of questionable character as symbols of representation. "When the gullible ones lead a society; such society remains undefined" -Apagunpote Olayimika Chocomilo

Few months ago, I wrote a piece titled "Before It's too late" where I emphasized on the need for the students' leaders to call for the coming together of concerned parties and allow shifting of grounds to define itself because it is glaring that the closed gates of LAUTECH can only be reopened through shifting of grounds. They refused to hearken to the words of the spirit rather than to call for shifting of grounds; they chose to wallow in deep hypocrisy and they allowed stipends received from political visits overwhelmed their sense of reasoning.

They have forgotten that as far as member unions are demanding for payment of outstanding subventions which resulted into billions of naira from states that could not  workers' salaries up to date and as far as visitors are demanding for thorough auditing of LAUTECH' accounts and staffs before they would pay meaningful amounts into the coffers of LAUTECH; resumption is simply not visible.

Both visitors are fighting for the interest of their states(Paris Club funds must be used for all quarters), member unions are fighting for the interest of their members(Salaries must be paid before resumption) but what actually are you(student leaders of LAUTECH) fighting for? Aligning forces with member unions to achieve their aims or using LAUTECH's crisis to seek stipends or enrich themselves.

If abuses, insults and derogatory remarks could open the gates of LAUTECH; I see no reason why students are still home despite all our attempts to derogate the government and the platform on which they contested on daily basis. It shows that no amount of noise and unnecessary propagandas would open the gates of LAUTECH except understanding of concerned parties and shifting of grounds by both parties as well.

Now that members of fundLAUTECH team have seen how invisible it is for the team to gather the sum of 1billion for 90days despite their politicking, visits to opposition leaders and ruling leaders of both states; they have come to understand that without the contributions of these visitors and understanding of member unions; gates of LAUTECH would remain under closure and heaven will not fall.

The media noise needs to stop. There is a need to put end to sheer ignorance and the distributors of tales, misinformation and hateful messages need to be cautioned. It is hightime for both parties to come together for extensive deliberation because students are been frustrated every blessed day.

Member unions should make known their demands, visi

tors should make known what's in their coffers and both parties should shift grounds till it satsifies both parties. If this strategy is not employed and we continue with our noise while some poor ones feed fat on us; LAUTECH will remain under closure and heaven will not fall.

Now that the fallen empire has refused to rise; what shall we do?.....HHmmmmm
