Football governing body FIFA lifts suspension of Nigeria from international competition over government interference

Football governing body FIFA on Friday lifted the suspension of Nigeria from international competition over "government interference" in the game. The suspension of the Nigerian Football Federation was imposed on July 9 just after the national team were beaten in the last 16 at the World Cup.

"FIFA has noted that the court proceedings and order preventing the president of the NFF, the NFF executive committee members and the NFF Congress from running the affairs of Nigerian football that prompted the suspension have been withdrawn," said a statement by the world body.

"As statutory order has been reinstated at the NFF and the legitimate bodies reinstalled, FIFA has decided to lift the suspension as of today, Friday 18 July 2014."

"Jonathan’s Unbridled Ambition Will Destroy Nigeria’s Democracy - Bola Tinubu

The Presidency and the ruling PDP forcefully had their way in Adamawa.
Governor Nyako has been impeached. Nigeria’s constitution suffers violence.
Democracy has been setback.

Under the constitution, a governor can only be impeached for “gross misconduct.” For the PDP, Nyako’s crime was not the false allegations contained in the articles of impeachment. To them, his gross misconduct was leaving the reactionary PDP to join the progressive APC. His misdeed was to exercise his constitutional right of freedom of association and political expression by leaving their corrupt assemblage and joining the party that just may represent the best hope of rescuing Nigeria from its present descent into authoritarian darkness.

Perhaps, Governor Nyako’s greatest sin is his temerity to speak truth to power albeit in a courageous way. On two different occasions, he gave an unvarnished insight into the Boko Haram menace and the insecurity engulfing Northern Nigeria. At the Institute of Peace in Washington DC this year when he visited with other Northern governors, he placed the blame for the Boko Haran insurgency on the Jonathan presidency. He then followed this up with a detailed letter to the forum of the Northern governors in which he accused the Jonathan led government of genocide against the North. This rattled and unsettled the government.Repeated attempts to have Gov. Nyako withdraw his letter and apologize to the President failed. From the moment he wrote that letter, he became a marked man. The government savaged the governor through the media. This kangaroo impeachment is government’s way of punishing Nyako.

BREAKING: Israeli military says rocket fired from Gaza at Israel as 5-hour humanitarian cease-fire ends

Israeli military says rocket fired from Gaza at Israel as 5-hour humanitarian cease-fire ends. A Hamas official has also dismissed those reports of a ceasefire agreement. "The news about a ceasefire is incorrect. There are continuing efforts but no agreement until now," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told AFP on Thursday.

Israel's hardline foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, who voted against a ceasefire earlier this week, has dismissed reports of a new truce.

APC - Pres. Jonathan embarrassed Nigeria by waiting to be goaded by Malala to meet Chibok parents

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as a compound embarrassment the fact that it took 17-year-old girl-child education campaigner, Pakistani Malala Yousafzai, to visit and convince President Goodluck Jonathan to agree to a meeting with representatives of the parents of the kidnapped school girls.

''President Jonathan, who has already embarrassed himself and the entire people of Nigeria by his inexplicable failure to visit Chibok since the girls were abducted over 90 days ago, has compounded the embarrassment and insulted Nigerians by waiting for Malala to goad him to meet with the girls' parents, not in Chibok but in Abuja,'' the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

"I was cornered into resigning, ex-Adamawa deputy governor

Mr. Ngilari rather than address his resignation letter to the governor, addressed it to the Speaker of the Assembly.

The controversy surrounding the resignation of Bala Ngilari as the Adamawa State Deputy Governor continued on Wednesday with the principal character stating that he was cornered into resigning the way he did. Ngilari claimed that he was forced to send a letter to the ex- Speaker of the House of Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, who is now the acting Governor.

Mr. Ngilari’s resignation was read on the floor of the Adamawa Assembly on Tuesday and accepted by the lawmakers few minutes before the then state governor, Murtala Nyako, was impeached. His resignation has been questioned by Mr. Nyako and other lawyers who argue that since the then governor was still in office then, Mr. Ngilari should have submitted his resignation letter to Mr. Nyako.

On Wednesday, Mr. Ngilari said he was aware of the constitutional provision but was boxed to a corner by the lawmakers.

GAZA CONFLICT UPDATES: Comprehensive ceasefire not true

The official who leaked reports of a "comprehensive ceasefire" agreement now seems to rowing back slightly. Reuters reports:

An Israeli official said on Thursday that Israeli senior representatives at talks in Cairo had accepted an Egyptian proposal for a comprehensive Gaza ceasefire starting on Friday, but Israel's leaders still had to approve the deal.

The official, who earlier said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision-making security cabinet had agreed to the truce, later told Reuters the forum had not yet voted and was still examining its details.

In Gaza, there was no immediate comment from Hamas or other Palestinian groups on whether they had accepted a permanent ceasefire to end warfare now in its 10th day.

Also Rocket sirens in Israel have marked the end of the acclaimed humanitarian truce, and the bombardment of Gaza has also resumed. Exactly at the end moment of the ceasefire that never really happened, there is a siren in Ashkelon region.

Israeli, Hamas Conflicts: Scepticism about reports of ceasefire agreement

Today's humanitarian truce, which was largely observed despite the exchange of mortar fire, is not expected to last.

Israel's prime minister has signalled that Israel will resume bombardment of Gaza when the five-hour truce expires in the next few minutes. PM Netanyahu has rejected request of extending current ceasefire, and said Israeli air force to react as soon temporarily ceasefire ends

YAHOO Kiev (AFP) - Kiev on Thursday accused a Russian air force jet of shooting down a Ukrainian warplane over its territory Wednesday, ratcheting up tensions along the volatile border between the two ex-Soviet states.

Wipe out all the Zionists: Hamas taunts Israel with battle song in Hebrew

Hamas has posted a Hebrew version of one of its battle songs in the latest act of psychological warfare accompanying the physical conflict with Israel.

The original Arabic version of “Shake Israel’s Security” has long been a popular anthem of the Islamist movement’s military wing, the Ezz Al Deen Al Qassam Brigades.

Now the Hebrew translation is on the brigades’ YouTube site, proclaiming to a dramatic orchestral accompaniment: “Wipe out all the Zionists...burn soldiers and their bases.”

“Exterminate the cockroach nest, expel all the Zionists,” it exhorts.

Israel and Hamas have since Tuesday been locked in a spiralling war across the border between southern Israel and the Gaza Strip, where Hamas has its power base.

Israeli soldiers raid Gaza rocket launch site

International pressure mounts on both sides to halt attacks

Israeli naval commandos clashed with Hamas militants in a raid on the coast of the Gaza Strip on Sunday, in what appeared to be the first ground assault of a six-day Israeli offensive on the territory aimed at stopping Palestinian rocket fire.

With aerial support from fighter jets, the Israeli force attacked a site in northern Gaza used to launch long-range rockets, an Israeli military spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner, said. Militants opened fire, wounding four commandos, but the launch site was hit, he said.

Hamas said its fighters had fired at the Israeli force offshore, preventing them from landing.

Lerner said the forces had "completed their mission" and that the results of the raid "would be the first published ground activity" by naval troops in Gaza, in an offensive that Palestinian officials said has killed at least 160 Palestinians, many of them civilians.

No Israeli has been killed by Hamas rocket fire.

Israeli troops briefly raid Gaza as offensive rages

Ignoring international appeals for a cease-fire, Israel widened its range of Gaza bombing targets to civilian institutions with suspected Hamas ties and deployed ground troops inside Gaza for the first time early Sunday to raid a rocket launching site in the Palestinian territory. More than 156 Palestinians have been killed.

Four Israeli soldiers were hurt in clashes during the brief incursion to destroy a rocket launching site in northern Gaza, the military said. It said the troops later returned to Israeli territory.
