The desecration of the Legislature by criminals should be stopped forthwith. The populace should rise up against all odds to protect our sacred institutions - more especially the legislature that is set up to make laws for good governance. 

I think Saraki, his cohorts and collogues in crime should take a cue from the South Africa President who was tried and found guilty by the court in South Africa. Yes, criminalisation of government institutions is abhorrent and should be resisted across Africa and Nigeria in particular. 

PRESIDENT BUHARI TO PARTICIPATE IN CHOGM, UN CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja tomorrow, Thursday, November 26 for Malta to participate in the 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which begins in the island nation on Friday.

The Commonwealth is made up of Britain, Nigeria and 51 other countries that work together to pursue common goals and promote development, democracy, peace, security and good governance.

President Buhari and other Heads of State and Government who will be in Malta for this year's summit and are expected to deliberate on fresh Commonwealth initiatives on development and climate change with a view to adding greater value to ongoing global efforts in these areas.

A new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth who will take over from the incumbent, Kamalesh Sharma, will be announced at the summit, which will also feature the presentation of a progress report on the eradication of polio.

Buhari Will Shake Hands With Devils

That the Nigerian president-elect Muhammadu Buhari shakes hands with Lara Oshiomhole has sparked a heated debate on social media. Some say that the handshake was inappropriate from the viewpoint of some Islamic tenets. While others see nothing wrong with the handshake.

For me, Let Buhari give handshake to the Devil as long as it doesn't affect the delivery of good governance, anti corruption stance, stable power supply dream, employment and job creations, productive education for self sustainablity, security, etc.

President Jonathan congratulates Soyinka at 80

The Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday congratulated literary giant and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, as he attains the landmark age of 80 years on Sunday. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President felicitated with the globally-renowned academic, dramatist, poet and literary icon as he celebrates the attainment of another significant milestone in a long, very fulfilled and achievement-laden life.

The statement read, “As he enters the elite club of the world’s highly revered octogenarians and very special people who have made very significant and indelible contributions to their countries and humanity, the President joins Prof. Soyinka, his family, friends, associates, readers and fans across the world in giving thanks to God Almighty for his glorious life of service to the arts, his nation and mankind at large.

El-Rufai: State pardon fuels corruption

Malam Nasir el-Rufai, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has expressed dissatisfaction with the practice of granting state pardon to convicted public office holders.

El-Rufai said he believed that granting state pardon to convicted public office holders was aiding corruption, arguing that it should be controlled.

Among those that have been granted state pardon in Nigeria is a former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

El-Rufai spoke on “Corruption, and the challenge of good governance’’ at a lecture organised by an association of Muslim businessmen, The Companion, in Lagos on Sunday. He noted that corruption would be reduced in the country through provision of welfare packages for public officers.

He said, “Giving state pardon to convicted political office-holders has a way of discouraging Nigerians not to be corrupt.

 OPENING REMARKS BY H.E GEN ABDULSALAMI ABUBAKAR (RTD), GCFR, FORMER HEAD OF STATE OF NIGERIA, AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE ALL POLITICAL PARTIES SUMMIT, INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, ABUJA. 12 JUNE, 2014.

1.I am very pleased to be here this morning as the Chairman of this occasion – The All Political Parties Summit. I wish to most sincerely thank the organizers of this event i.e the National security Adviser (NSA) and the Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Party Affairs for inviting me here to be part of this important gathering where eminent Nigerians and Political leaders from different walks of life have converged to deeply reflect on issues of Inter Party relationship, good governance, democracy and to build a common platform needed for harmony and the actualization of our National goals and objectives.

2.As destiny had it, my Administration and I had the singular honour of playing a crucial role in the 1999 political transition in Nigeria in spite of the enormous challenges that faced us at that time. The situation in the country right now reminds me of the enormous challenges we faced in the late nineties when the political atmosphere was charged. Challenges then arose from the difficult political history that lingered from the aborted and truncated transition of the early 90’s. Internal forces that threatened the existence of the state also played a significant role to create that atmosphere of instability and insecurity.

BREAKING News: Sanusi vs FG; Federal High Court Rules Against FRCN

A Federal High Court in Lagos has barred the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN, from investigating Lamido Sanusi, the suspended governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Justice John Tsoho, while delivering the judgement said that although the FRCN is saddled with ensuring good governance in financial matters, their posturing shows that they are already prejudiced. The judge countered the FRCN’s argument that their recommendation to the presidency was merely advisory. He said it was obvious that they had already decided Mr. Sanusi’s fate, even before their investigation.
