We, coalition of civil society groups under the auspices of MOVEMENT AGAINST AUSTERITY AND HARDSHIP(MAAH) want to condemn the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force for intimidating 2face Idibia from participating in the February 6th mass protests against the sufferings and anti-poor policies in the country. 

Ours is a radical understanding of the issues at hand. And so, we commend 2face for even making efforts at standing for the truth in the first place. That he had to bow to the cruel and anti-democratic pressures on him and his family is a pointer to the fact that we are all humans. The fate of the protest is never tied to any individual, no matter how great or popular. So, the nationwide protests must continue!

Democratic Policing is one of the core values of the current Police management under the leadership of IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni. The IGP as an ardent apostle of the rule of law and adherent of international best practices of Policing has since assumption of office articulated a master plan to guarantee a reformed electoral process across the country. This is a novel security template devoid of violence, electoral malpractices and attendant destruction of lives and property which have been a recurring decimal in previous elections in the country.

I’ll enforce withdrawal of riot policemen as personal guards, place ban on road block, says IG

•’Sack of AIGs is mere speculation’

The Ag. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has vowed to enforce the withdrawal of riot policemen serving as personal guards.

He also said the ban on road block was a directive from the Federal Government and remains.

Idris, who also dismissed the rumour of the sack or forced retirement of some Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) and other senior officers as mere speculation, spoke in Abuja during his maiden meeting with senior officers of the Force.

Some of the topics that were discussed include: Declaration of assets, withdrawal of Police Mobile Force,(PMF) personnel, restructuring of Special Anti Robbery Squad, PMF, Counter Terrorism Unit, formation of eminent persons forum in each state command, and establishment of joint operations centre in each state Command, among others.

BREAKING: President Buhari Appoints Kpotum Idris As New IGP

Nigerian President , Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Kpotum Idris as the Acting Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force.

AIG Ibrahim Kpotum Idris from Niger State, may have been appointed as the acting Inspector-General of Police following the exit of Mr. Solomon Arase from the position on Monday.

A confirmed source within the Aso Villa comfirmed him as Buhari's choice for Arase replacemen.

Idris was accompanied to President Muhammadu Buhari’s office by Arase at 2:20pm on Tuesday. Some officials were seen carrying the new rank which Idris would be decorated with.

President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja on Sunday after his short vacation and medical treatment in London, resumming to office on Monday and by evening hosted Service Chiefs and the outgoing Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to a Ramadan breaking of fast dinner at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Nigerian Police says terrorists planning to attack FCT transport service, gives out emergency lines

The Nigeria Police Force has said that credible intelligence at its disposal indicated that terrorists have perfected a plot to carry out attacks on the Abuja transport sector.

The Force stated that the attacks which are intended to cause panic amongst residents and visitors alike are planned to be perpetrated through suicide bombings, or through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices concealed in luggage, bags, cans, and other receptacles.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in Abuja on Saturday said the Police High Command had ordered the FCT Commissioner of Police in particular and other CPs in adjoining States to beef-up security at major parks around Abuja and its environs.

ASUP, COEASU Strike: Police tear-gas protesting students, lecturers - Premium Times (WITH PHOTOS)

The reports by the Premium Times confirmed that the protest by striking lecturers of Nigeria’s polytechnics and colleges of education has been disrupted by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.

According to the source, The protest, held at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, was disrupted on Tuesday morning when police officers fired tear-gas at the protesters, made up of lecturers and students. The protesters, however, say they will not leave the venue.

Brutality: The Nigerian police officer takes aim at one of his victims

A video showing a male Nigerian police officer, armed with an AK-47 rifle and brutalizing two women on a Lagos Street, is now circulating on YouTube.

The video clip, published on Apr 18, 2014, showed the police officer trying to drown one of his victims in a muddy pond while a crowd watched.

The officer, apparently on guard at one of the banks in the area, had his rifle dangling from his shoulder as the drowning victim struggled under his grip.

The officer then pounced on the second victim whom the video showed intervening to rescue the first victim.

The clip, published by Sahara Reporters, showed the officer pointing his riffle at his victims before shooting into the air to create fear and disperse the crowd that was beginning to gather at the scene.

Sahara Reporters identified the police officer involved in the incident as Tafa Mohammed, who was on guard at Lewis Street, Lafiaji, in the Obalende area of Lagos Island during the incident.

Witnesses told the newspaper the victim angered Mr. Mohammed after she failed to give him a piece of fish from a pot of soup in her restaurant.

Witnesses claim the police officer was drunk, but PREMIUM TIMES is unable to independently confirm that.

An online crowd sourcing website, Nigeria Police Watch, which documents excesses by the Nigeria Police Force said similar intimidation and abuse of police powers are common within the force.

President Jonathan, CONFAB Chairman mourn late national conference delegate, Hamma Misau

The Nigerian President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and the chairman of the ongoing National Confab in Abuja, Justice Idris Lebo Kutigi (rtd), on Friday commiserated with members of the Association of Retired Police Officers on the death on Thursday in Abuja, of one of their representatives at the ongoing national conference, Hamma Misau.

President Jonathan, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, extended condolences to the retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police’ family, the government and people of Bauchi State, as well as the Chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi (rtd.) and all of the deceased’s co-delegates.

According to Abati, Jonathan joined them in mourning Misau who patriotically served his nation, state and community throughout his 34 years of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force. He observed that even in retirement, the deceased continued to be actively engaged with efforts to move the nation forward as shown by his participation in the National Conference.

Updates: Gunmen Attack in Katsina State, 103 Persons Feared Killed in Multiple Attacks

Gunmen, believed to be cattle rustlers, have attacked villages in Katsina State killing about 103 people in the multiple attacks on many of the communities in Faskari Local Government Area of Kastina statte, residents said.

Over 100 armed men on motorcycles on Tuesday and Wednesday evening invaded Kurar Mota, Marabar Maigora, Sabon Layin Galadima, Unguwar Doka, and Maigora, all in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
