SAUDI SEEKS NIGERIA’S MILITARY COLLABORATION TO FIGHT TERRORISM

 The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeking for partnership with Nigeria to fight terrorism. A 7- man delegation from the country’s Ministry of Defence today visited Headquarters Nigerian Air Force to discuss areas of possible collaboration as part of the global efforts to stamp out insurgency and terrorism. 

The delegation was led by the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj Gen Yahya Ahmed Massiri. While commending the Chief of the Air Staff, (CAS) Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar for the successes recorded so far in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency, 

Concerns About Nigeria's Policy Announcement on Whistleblowing

Wálé Ọláyanjú's comment gets to the crux of criticism levied at the way the Whistleblower policy was announced. He elucidates concerns many have and they are not your average ignorant people. Other nations did not go about it this way when their policies on whistleblowing were implemented. We hardly heard about them yet, those measures are being effectively used.

Nigeria is guided by international best practice and standards in rehabilitating millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) spawned by the Boko Haram insurgency, President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed.

Speaking while receiving Mr Phillipo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Monday in State House, Abuja, President Buhari disclosed that Nigeria was making efforts to domesticate the Kampala Convention, which legally binds governments to protect the rights and wellbeing of people forced to flee their homes by conflict.

The President lauded the military, which he said has created a safe passage that has made it easier to help the displaced persons.

I warmly welcome everyone who has made out time to participate in this very important Public Hearing on the North East Development Commission Bill which seeks to lay a concrete legal framework to remedy the grave social dislocation and progressive socio economic devastation of the North Eastern states of Nigeria occasioned by the destructive escapades of the Boko Haram insurgency.

2. As noted at similar occasions in the recent past, Public Hearing is a governance window by the legislature in the promotion of citizens’ participation in the law making process and by implication in governance. I therefore wish to encourage all of us here seated to participate zealously by offering our views and opinion with total commitment in the confidence that we are thereby contributing towards quality of legislation that we all desire.

3. Our aspirations for the establishment of the commission are not far fetched, even though there is poverty across Nigeria, in comparative terms, the North East suffers an exceptional poverty amidst little opportunities to push itself out of this unfortunate socio economic quagmire. Our industries have all nearly collapsed, schools are dilapidated, destroyed or non-existent in most communities, roads are death traps and largely inaccessible and farming completely in virtual comatose due to insurgency. Besides, the region groans under the pangs of desertification, ethno-religious crisis, climatic factors, predatory diseases among others.

MULTINATIONAL TASKFORCE TO PATROL GULF OF GUINEA - PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari said Thursday in Abuja that a multinational taskforce will soon be established to patrol the waters of the Gulf of Guinea.

Speaking at an audience with the French Minister of Defence, Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, President Buhari said that patrols by the multinational taskforce will augment and boost ongoing efforts to improve security in the Gulf, and curb crude oil theft and piracy.

President Buhari and Mr. Le Drian also discussed ongoing French support for the Federal Government's efforts to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

The President expressed his government's appreciation of the assistance and support of France and other G7 countries, which he said, has helped Nigeria achieve significant successes against Boko Haram.

How Samantha Power leads Obama’s team in Nigeria to back Buhari’s plans

The United States President, Barack Obama, has sent a 42-member high-power delegation to Nigeria in support of the three priority areas of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Leader of the delegation, Ms Samantha Power, said on Thursday in Abuja that the three areas – security, economy and governance remain the focus of the delegation’s visit to Nigeria.

Power at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said Nigeria remains a strategic partner to the U.S. not only in Africa but globally.

“As you (Onyeama) indicated, Obama has sent me and members of his cabinet to lead an inter-agency delegation to Nigeria,” she said.

How female suicide bombers kill eight at refugee camp in Borno state

Two female suicide bombers have killed at least eight people at a camp for people displaced by the jihadist Boko Haram insurgency in northeast state of Borno, a community near the cameroon border, security force member and a customs official said on Thursday.

The bombings happened around 8 a.m. (0700 GMT) on Wednesday in the town of Banki on the edge of Borno state, near the border with Cameroon. An attack in February on an internally displaced persons camp, also in Borno, killed 60 people.

Details of Wednesday's attack were slow to emerge as Banki is remote and largely disconnected from mobile phone networks. The state of Borno is where Boko Haram began their insurgency seven years ago. The group wants to create a state adhering to strict sharia law.

Multiple bomb explosion hit the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Abuja last night. The release of prisoners in Kuje prison was reported to be the motive behind Kuje bombing’.

Like many others, scores of people died in this multiple bomb blasts in Abuja yesterday night. The Maiduguri independent day bombing also claimed many live!

But first, we must give kudos to the vibrant prominent Northern Nigerian rights activist and author; Shehu Sani, for prompting the Sultan into speaking on the Boko Haram and Islam religion.

More than 100 Killed in Boko Haram Attack In Borno As 20 Boko Haram Members Arrested By Youths

More than 100 persons were reportedly killed during Tuesday's attack on three border communities with Cameroon during an insurgency attack by members of Boko Haram sects.


The Tuesday's attack, it was learnt was a retaliatory one on the three villages of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in local government area of troubled Borno state. A resident of Maiduguri, who lost his brother in the attack, told journalists on condition of anonymity that the armed men dressed in military camouflage drove into the three communities of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in the Gwoza Local Government, northeast Borno State, in military vehicles.

They subsequently gathered the unsuspecting villagers and opened fire on them.
Gwoza is located on the southeast of Borno state and about 135 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the capital of the state presently ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resolved to impeach Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State,it was learnt yesterday.

According to a source, the Presidency  was the brain behind the move. Their decision follows Nyako’s recent memo to Northern governors on the insecurity in that part of the country. The Presidency and the PDP consider the memo a danger to national security.

They are also relying on the reports of security agencies into the allegations contained in Nyako’s letter. The security agencies, including the Police, have faulted Nyako’s observations and rated the letter as “subversive and seditious.”

ElRufai sues PDP, Metuh, demands N1.5bn

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has filed a N1.5bn libel suit before an Abuja High Court in Gudu, against the Peoples Democratic Party and its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh.

According to el-Rufai, Metuh had in an allegedly defamatory statement which was issued on behalf of the PDP, linked him and the All Progressives Congress to Boko Haram insurgency.

In another publication, el-Rufai said Metuh claimed that he (el-Rufai) collected N5bn as consultancy fee from the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Lamido Sanusi.

Metuh was said to have made the claims in separate publications in the March 17 and 23 editions of This Day Newspaper.

President Jonathan on Friday cancelled a Scheduled visit to Chibok, in Borno state.Chibok, is in south and about 140 kilometres drive from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, the hometown of more than 200 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by Islamic militants. The Presidency had said president Jonathan will visit the town today but a senior government official said Jonathan's trip to remote Chibok in Borno state as "was on (the president's) schedule up to this morning" but the visit had been scrapped till further notice.

BREAKING: Scores Killed as Boko Haram Sects Attack Two Villages in Zamfara state

At least 22 persons were reportedly killed in an attack by the members of the suspected Islamist militias, Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, officials said on Friday.

Islamist Gunmen on about 50 motorcycles attacked two villages in Zamfara State, Maitsaba and Birnin-Tsab on Thursday evening.They attacked residents and torched dozens of homes and grain stores, Zamfara Commissioner of Commerce Alhaji Hassan Zurmi told dpa.
