The Office of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has dismissed as false, insinuations and reports that the Senator could be on his way to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to save his job.

In a statement made available to reporters in Abuja, the Special Assistant (Political Matters) to the Deputy President of the Senate on Political Affairs, Hon. Okey Ozoani, described the reports as “a fantasy of those peddling it”.

He assured the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faithful and Nigerians that “Ekweremadu is going nowhere”.

Edo Guber Poll: Masari heads APC 7men committee for party primary, Bamidele heads appeal committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday inaugurated a seven-member Electoral Committee headed by the governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, for the 2016 Edo State governorship election primaries.

It also constituted a three-member Election Appeal Committee chaired by a former member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Opeyemi, for the election.

The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has appealed to the Federal Government to assist states owing their workers to defray the salary arrears.

The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, who said this in a statement made available to Journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday said the FG should help the states even if they have to source for fund from the external reserves.

The party said states appreciated the bailout given to them last year by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, but stressed that they needed another bailout from the FG to save them from the salary crisis.

Kogi Governorshipp Election: APC to Hold Fresh Primary Election; PDP kicks

The Chairman  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) John Oyegun has said that the APC will conduct a fresh primary election in Kogi State to pick a replacement for late Abubakar Audu.

Abubakar Audu, who passed away on Sunday, was the APC candidate in the November 21 inconclusive Kogi State governorship election, thereby throwing up fresh legal and political firestorm in the state.

While speaking with journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, APC National Chairman John Oyegun said the decision to hold a fresh primary was taken after the party received a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking it to replace Audu.

The INEC decision followed a pronouncement to that effect by the Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami. 

While the APC welcomed the decision, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP demanded Malami’s resignation as it described the decision as an affront to democracy laced with mines to torpedo the democratic choice of the people in Kogi State.

Also, while APC, ahead of the December 5 supplementary polls to conclude the governorship election, has proposed fresh primaries to throw up a replacement for late Audu t,here was also a cloud on whether it would be restricted to only those who bought the initial forms or opened up to new entrants, a possibility that could draw in Audu’s running mate, Rep. James Faleke and Alhaji Isah Jibrin Echocho who recently defected from the PDP after a stormy political battle with the incumbent governor, Captain Idris Wada.

Senators Saraki And Ekweremadu's Elections Are A Nullity By Jiti Ogunye

Since the National Assembly (NA)  erupted in crisis during the  "inauguration" of the 8th NA and the "election" of the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, the 9th of June, 2015, a lot has been said and written about the issues in dispute in the crisis.  Unfortunately, rather than subject the "election"  in the NA, in particular  in the Senate, on that day, to a rigorous legal examination, in order to determine the legality of that election, many of the principal actors in  the NA leadership crisis or in the All Progressives Congress (APC) imbroglio, and a host of other  interveners have been discussing the  politics of the crisis and its  "mishandling" by the APC leadership, who, according to these interveners,  was hell bent on foisting a leadership on the NA. Many simple-minded gloaters have even reduced the serious issues thrown up by the crisis to a  celebration of the  " political defeat of  Bola Ahmed Tinubu", as if that alleged defeat was all that was needed to make the aberration that occurred in the NA acceptable.  In this intervention, we seek to redirect the discourse. We argue that the NA leadership crisis primarily should be discussed and resolved on the basis of enquiries as to whether there had been a violation of the  rule of law and the provisions of  the Constitution.   -    Jiti Ogunye

What transpired in the NA on Tuesday, 9th June, 2015 was a coup d'état. If it was merely a  coup d'état by  the treacherous members of the APC against their party's choices  for  the offices that constitute the leadership of the NA, we would not have been bothered. We are bothered because it  was also a coup d'état against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the rule of law.

On that day, while Senator Bukola Saraki of the APC, who has confessed that, like a typical coup d'état leader, he sneaked into the premises of the NA at dawn, was "elected  unopposed" as the Senate President, by 57 Senators, in the absence of 51 Senators, who were "ambushed" into a fence-mending and ranks-closing meeting that eventually turned out to be a hoax, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the People Democratic Party ( PDP) "defeated" his opponent, Senator Ali Ndume of the APC by 50 votes to 24 votes  ( with one abstention)  to clinch the post of the Deputy Senate President. Instructively, the APC controls the Senate with 59 ( now 58)  Senators, while the PDP has 49 Senators, meaning that 108 members ought to have congregated on the Senate Floor on the said date to constitute the leadership of the Senate. Alas, only 57 senators and 75 senators took part in the elections into the two offices.

I don’t need your praise, Tinubu tells Kashamu

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has rejected the praises showered on him by Ogun-East senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu, who is the Chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, had last week, described Tinubu as his role model and the architect of modern Nigeria.

However, Tinubu, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr. Sunday Dare, described Kashamu as a pretender.

The former governor of Lagos State said there was no basis for comparison between himself and Kashamu, adding that he felt insulted by the open letter addressed to him by Kashamu. “The days of false adulation are gone in Nigerian politics. Fake praise singers like Kashamu will find that their particular craft is no longer in vogue. During this election cycle, their practice has dramatically turned from the way things are to how things used to be.

BREAKING NEWS: OSUN ELECTION TRIBUNAL DISMISSES OMISORE'S CASE FOR LACK OF MERIT

The election petition tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the Osun state capital has dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that last year state governorship election which saw the incumbent governor of the state Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola retained the seat for the next four years.

Contrary to the unnecessary and wide jubilation by the PDP supporters  since the both party closed their cases at tribunal and yesterday in Osogbo, the Tribunal dismissed the petition for lack of merit in all ramification and that the incumbent is duly and validly elected.


The Leading tribunal member, Justice Elizabeth Ipejime on Friday at the High Court in Osogbo declared  governor Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress winner of the election tribunal.

Aregbesola who had defeated PDP’s Senator Iyiola Omisore during the polls with 392, 284 votes to 292, 742 votes but the results were contested by Omisore and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Both Aregbesola and Omisore were absent in court but were ably represented by their party’s agents.


On allegations of over-voting, the Tribunal ruled that no single evidence of over-voting was proved by the petitioners.

On allegation of using O'Yes as INEC officials, there is no such evidence on record as what they have are two O'Yes member who testified as agent and not INEC official

The tribunal ruled that the Petitioners failed to prove allegations of improper accreditation.

On the allegation of non stamping of result by the Petitioners, the Tribunal ruled that the result sheets were properly signed and stamped.

On the allegations of intimidation and prevention of people from voting, the tribunal ruled that there was no evidence to that effect.

Also, the Tribunal ruled that there is nothing expert in the so called expert witness report.

On the complaints that INEC did not call witness, the Tribunal ruled that the petitioners is duty bound to discharge the onus to prove the allegations.

In this case the petitioners failed to prove their allegations to warrant INEC calling evidence.
