I Will Support Revival of National Theatre - Gov. Ambode

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has made a firm commitment to partner with the Federal Government for the renovation of the National Theatre, saying it is necessary to join hands to uplift national monuments.

The Governor made the commitment when he paid a join inspection visit to the National Theatre with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Lagos on Sunday.

''I am going to support the whole concept of bringing this National Theatre back to life. This is not an investment for Lagos state, but a support for the rebirth of national heritage," he said after the inspection.

1. Introduction
The Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) chaired the eleventh monthly meeting of operators in the electricity industry. The meeting was jointly hosted by Ikeja Electric and Egbin Power.
The meeting focused on identifying, discussing, and finding practical solutions to critical issues facing the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: How Fleeing Boko Haram member arrested in Lagos

One of the fleeing Boko Haram insurgents recently dislodged in Sambisa forest in Borno State was arrested on Saturday in Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai disclosed the arrest on Sunday at the re-opening of two major roads in the state that were closed since 2013 at the height of the activities of the insurgents.
The roads are Maiduguri-Gubio-Damasak and Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga.

Buratai charged troops in the North East to pursue the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists and intercept them.

“You must maintain the momentum of the operation. We must pursue the terrorists wherever they are. We must not allow them to regroup,” the army chief said.

FACT __ Aside Lagos State, not more than 2 or 3 States out of 36 are currently paying the present #18,000 minimum wage in Nigeria without owing workers for several months and PENSIONERS for up to a year.


The call for #56,000 minimum wage by the Labour Union was made in an absolutely wrong time. It portrays the leadership of the Labour as being insensitive to the plight which the rest of the Nigerian masses are undergoing. Are we expecting States and FG to use our common resources to service just the workers at the detriment of other infrastructure and other palliative measure that will ameliorate the current economic impasse which we find ourselves ?

I don’t need your praise, Tinubu tells Kashamu

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has rejected the praises showered on him by Ogun-East senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu, who is the Chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, had last week, described Tinubu as his role model and the architect of modern Nigeria.

However, Tinubu, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr. Sunday Dare, described Kashamu as a pretender.

The former governor of Lagos State said there was no basis for comparison between himself and Kashamu, adding that he felt insulted by the open letter addressed to him by Kashamu. “The days of false adulation are gone in Nigerian politics. Fake praise singers like Kashamu will find that their particular craft is no longer in vogue. During this election cycle, their practice has dramatically turned from the way things are to how things used to be.

Nigeria records two new Ebola cases - Health Minister

Nigeria has recorded two new Ebola cases, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, announced Friday.

Mr. Chukwu, a professor, said the new cases are spouses of the primary contacts of the index case, Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who brought the virus to Nigeria.

He said the new cases are the first secondary contacts to test positive to the deadly virus that has killed five people in Nigeria. The secondary contacts had been under surveillance since the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria, Mr. Chukwu added.

At a press conference in Lagos Wednesday, Jide Idris, the state’s Health Commissioner, told journalists that five new suspected Ebola virus cases were brought to the isolation ward of the Yaba Mainland Hospital in Lagos on Tuesday.

Lagos State clears 61 people monitored for possible Ebola infection

Sixty-one people placed under observation by the Nigerian authorities for possible Ebola infection have been cleared and are not at risk of contracting the disease.

 The 61 persons were cleared after 21 days since they had primary or secondary contact with the index case, the Liberian Patrick Sawyer who died of Ebola in Lagos.

 Lagos State Governor, Babtunde Fashola, disclosed this during a broadcast to the people of the state on the level of preparedness and efforts taken by the government to curtail the spread of the virus in the state. 

“Last week we cleared a total of 61 contacts after the 21 days surveillance which is the known lifespan of the virus. These people were not sick. 

John Oyegun, Ex-Edo Governor, emerges new APC Chairman

A former Governor of Edo state, John Oyegun, has emerged the new Chairman of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC. The emergence of Mr. Oyegun, who will now succeed ex-Governor Bisi Akande, followed intense negotiations and horse trading among various contending forces in the party.

His nomination was subsequently ratified by APC delegates at the first National Convention of the party, holding at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

Mr. Oyegun’s candidature was promoted by a national leader of the party and former Governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu. Mr. Oyegun’s main challenger and former governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva, who was the candidate of choice for the governors elected under the banner of the party, reportedly stepped down for Mr. Oyegun earlier in the day.

Former Governor of Lagos State, Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola, is dead

A former Governor of Lagos State, Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola, is dead. The former governors widow, Lady Doja Otedola, in a statement said Otedola died on Tuesday morning at the age of 87yrs.

According to Her,  “Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola passed away this morning at 87. Funeral arrangements to be announced later by the family.”

It was learnt that the former governor died of a stroke related ailment that has kept him from public glare for the past five years.
Otedola was born on July 16, 1926 at Odoragunsin in the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

He won a scholarship to study Journalism at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London and graduated in 1958.
When he returned to Nigeria in 1959 he became an information officer in the Western Nigeria Government and was later appointed the Editor of the Western Nigeria Illustrated.

Fire Engulfs Petrol Tankers In Lagos, Destroy Properties (See Photos)

Five petrol tankers have been engulfed in an afternoon fire at the Kirikiri area of Lagos state. men of the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigerian Navy are responding to the fire.

Earlier the residents of the area were complaining of slow response, especially when men of the Nigeria Police who arrive the scene in record time, do not have the contact of the fire service.

PHOTOS: Riot In Apapa As Naval Officer Shoots Tanker Driver To Death Over N500

A fierce riot occurred on Friday in Apapa, Lagos state, between tanker drivers and military personnel after the death of a tanker driver.

According to reports, a naval officer had shot a tanker driver identified as Lekan to death after Lekan and his boss refused to pay a bribe of N500 to the naval officer.

This led to the huge brawl with tires being burnt and roads being barricaded. 

Nigeria Does Not Have And Does Not Need A Police Force - Aduba

The term Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is very misleading. NPF is a term used by some men and women in uniform who extort money from the citizenry for the benefit of the uniform wearer’s family. Nobody should doubt that Nigeria does not have and does not need a police force. Here are proofs dating only two years back:

1.   About two years ago a young woman was seen on tape being raped by some young men. The tape suggested that the incident took place on the campus of Abia State University in Ituru in Abia state of Nigeria. Two years later the identity of the victim and those of the perpetrators have not been established. Nobody knows what has become of the case. It has not been conclusively proved that the tape was fake. Nobody even mentions it anymore. It never happened.

Missing gun: Nigerian soldiers storm Lagos community

Soldiers from Ibereko Barracks on the Badagry Expressway, in Lagos State have laid a siege on the Mowo Community in the area, in search of a missing gun. This mroning, the soldiers mounted a post at the bus stop and prevented shop owners from opening for business.

“They are still at the bus stop, they have a check point there before the incident. They went on with their normal business overnight because they always come to the point in the night. This morning, they ordered the closure of every shop at the bus stop, ” a woman said.

Yesterday, it was a near action film for the residents as the unidentified soldiers stormed the community.

UPDATES: Lagos Wreck Boat Recovered - LAWSA

Lagos State Waterways Authority on Friday said, it has recovered the wreck boat which capsized on Wednesday evening at Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos State. Managing Director of LAWSA, Mr Olayinka Marinho, made the revelations today.

 News Agency of Nogeria reports that Mr. Marinho said in Lagos that the 22-capacity boat which belonged to Bell Marine Transport hit a log on the waterways and this led to the wreckage of the boat.

Bell Marine Transport boat departed Ebute-Ero on Wednesday at about 5.30pm for Ikorodu and the unfortunate boat incident happened at the Majidun River axis of the Lagos lagoon, said the LAWSA boss.

One feared dead as Police, OPC clash in Ajegunle Lagos

A member of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, was reportedly killed on Saturday during a clash between police at the Tolu Police Division, Ajegunle, Lagos State and the group. According to report, a policeman was also injured in the attack.

Trouble ensued when a rape culprit in the custody of the OPC was released by the Police under heavy gunfire. According to the OPC Lagos State Governor, Wasiu Afolabi, members of the OPC had on Friday arrested a man for rapping an 18-year old girl but was forcefully released by the police from their custody.

Fashola Takes FG to Court over Deductions from Federation Account

A violation of section 162 of 1999 constitution

Governor Babatunde R. Fashola of  Lagos State  has dragged the Federal Government of Nigeria to the Supreme Court, challenging the latter’s power to deduct one percent from the revenue due to all federating units from the Federation Account for the purpose of funding police reforms. In the originating summons filed pursuant to sections 1(3) and 232 of the 1999 Constitution by its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeola Ipaye, among others, the state government said the decision to deduct the one percent from the Federation Account violated section 162 (3-5).
