President Buhari Sends Notice of His Duties Resumption to National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, notifying the lawmakers of his return from a 103-day medical vacation in London and his subsequent resumption of duty, an official has said. The president signed the letter of notice for dispatch to Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara, hours after his nationwide broadcast to the nation Monday morning.

The presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday afternoon. “In line with constitutional provision, President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, notifying the legislature of his return to office, after returning from medical vacation in London,” disclosed Mr. Adesina.

The president of the Federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has been on medical leave in the United Kingdom for over a month. Buhari is battling several chronic illnesses.

Diagnosed with prostatic cancer several years ago as leaked medical reports from the ABU teaching hospital in Nigeria reveal, Buhari is suffering complications of that diagnoses with “multiple organs affected” as well as other chronic ailments including Crohn’s intestinal disease as revealed in media reports.

Acting President Osinbajo swears in Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The Nigerian Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has sworn in Walter Onnoghen as the 17th Chief Justice of Nigeria. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted Tuesday inside the council chambers of Aso Rock presidential villa, Abuja.

Mr. Onnoghen, a native of Cross River state, was first appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as acting CJN on November 10, 2016 after the retirement of former CJN, Mahmoud Mohammed.

Prof. Osinbajo returned his name to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as substantive CJN on February 8. The Senate screened and confirmed him on March 1.

Osinbajo said President Muhammadu Buhari had asked him to let the new CJN know that he was assuming office at a time “when all arms of government suffers from loss of confidence from the people”.

Saharareporters has obtained further details about the monumental scandal around billions of naira in Paris Club loan refunds that were brazenly stolen by the state governors, the Senate President Bukola Saraki, and the Nigerian businessman Hassan Dambaba, who also holds the traditional title of Magaji Ngari Sokoto. 

Mr. Dambaba apparently embezzled as much as N2.5 billion from the Paris/London Club refunds.

Yesterday, Mr. Dambaba surrendered himself for interrogation by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was accompanied by a director of the Department of State Services (DSS). A source said Mr. Dambaba was acting as a front for Governor Abdulraziz Yariof Zamfara State who is also the chairman of the Governors' Forum.

Executive/Judiciary Collaboration To Quicken Dispensation of Justice - Information Minister

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the revitalized collaboration between the Executive and the Judiciary under the present administration will quicken the dispensation of justice in the country and ensure there is no hiding place for corrupt persons.

The Minister said this on Saturday night in Abuja at a ceremony to mark the 80th birthday of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore.

"I want to say that this is a new dawn of collaboration between the Executive and Judicial Arms of Government. On our own part as government, we will ensure that we give the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court the full complement of judges," he said.

Bukola Saraki: My Leader, Our Leader Was Never Selfish But Patriotic

Senate President Bukola Saraki is a man of an impeccable character who derives joy in making his people happy with almost all he has. This, unarguably is an inherited trait from his dad, the late Oloyee whose humanitarian and financial generosity was compared to none in the whole black continent during his lifetime. So, if anybody claims Senate President Saraki is selfish now, that means the person is living with the thousands of fabricated lies by the members of opposition APC in the state to drag his personality through mud. Of course, some members within Kwara APC whose roots were traced to a Southwest leader of the party also play a bigger role in the calumnious campaign all in the name of rejuvenating their party with which they contested for governorship in Kwara and never won their polling units more than a decade ago. What a shame!

Without mincing words, Saraki has no other base than here. Kwara is indeed his major concern. This is a man who has injected projects that worth billions in the national budget for Kwara State. Unequivocally, if not for the financial crunch facing the nation that did not allow the full implementation of the 2016 budget, Kwara state would have witnessed unprecedented developments that would have positioned it into first class status in the global consideration. Yes I trust my leader! This is a man who, apart from making many Kwarans legislative aides and Staff of National Assembly and getting handsome salaried and allowances, since June 9 2016 when he ascended the seat of Senate Presidency, has also brought hundreds of federal jobs for mainly Kwarans. These jobs, the better jobs indeed which included NNPC, CBN, FIRS, PEF, NDIC and so on, were given to Kwarans. Obviously not Saraki's children. So how is he selfish?

Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker House of Representative Hon Yakubu Dogara and members of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Deregulation seperately met with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress.

The NLC delegation was led by the national president, Comrade Aliyu Wabba and during the meeting, they appealed to labour leaders to consider suspending the strike while negotiations continue. the meeting was centred on ways of ending the face-off between Labor and the presidency over the recent increase in pump price of petrol.

AT LAST: Buhari Signs 2016 Appropriation Bill into Law

After weeks of controversies, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally signed the 2016 budget.


The signing of the budget was witnessed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker, House Of Reps, Yakubu Dogara, Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Budget ,Udo Udoma and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje and his counterpart in the House Of Reps, Abdulmumuni Jibrin.

President Buhari assented to the Appropriation Bill after the National Assembly submitted a clean copy to him. The president earlier withheld after discovering some “grey areas” in the Appropriation Bill.

Code of Conduct Bureau - We’ve verified assets of Buhari, Osinbajo, others

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) said Wednesday that it has completed the verification of assets declared by President Mohammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Bukola Saraki and others top officials of the current administration.

The agency said, in a statement Wednesday that it was not true, as reported by a newspaper, that it was yet to conclude the verification of assets declared by Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki and others.

Appeal Court: Saraki Withdraws Application Against CCT Trial

Senate President Bukola Saraki has withdrawn an application to stall his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) pending the hearing of his suit at the appeal court. The senate president is facing trial at the CCT for alleged false declaration of assets.

On Monday at the appeal court, Kanu Agabi, Saraki’s lead counsel, withdrew the application and asked the court to grant accelerated hearing to his appeal challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT to try his client. “When your lordship has read such a voluminous motion, it is unfair to say we are withdrawing. But we have to. We want to withdraw the motion,” he said.

“In the motion, dated April 4, we prayed your lordship to stay proceedings at the CCT pending the hearing of our appeal. But we now want to urge your lordship to grant accelerated hearing to our appeal. “My Lord, we appeal to you to grant us accelerated hearing.”

Danladi, Don't Listen To These Jokers: False Asset Declaration - Withdraw From Ongoing Trial Of Saraki

You wonder why Nigeria got into this mess in the first place. It's because of these people. They all set bad precedents when they were in court. They misinterpreted the law and the constitution. They decided cases in favor of the highest bidders and set criminals free at will. Now, they still want to continue to influence the system, even when they are no longer Justices.

Some leading legal luminaries including former justices of the Supreme Court have advised Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Mr. Danladi Umar, to withdraw from presiding the ongoing trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki over alleged false assets declaration to ensure fairness in the matter.

Saraki's  legal giants, who picked holes in the Supreme Court judgement of February 5, 2016 giving the CCT jurisdiction in the Saraki trial, argued that the CCT is not a court of law under our Constitution and cannot be invested with criminal or quasi-criminal jurisdiction.

Public Outrage: Senate Suspends Amendment To Code Of Conduct Bureau Act

The Nigerian Upper Legislative chamber Senate has decided to suspend the amendment to the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, following public outrage at their attempt to disempower many laws which govern the conduct of public officials.


It's a general opinion that the Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is currently charged with breaching laws outlined in that Act, was using his influence in the Senate to rush through amendments which would weaken the power of the Code of Conduct Bureau and the tribunals.


The first and second readings of the amendment took place at an expedited pace last week, which was observed by many media outlets. Mr. Saraki also recused himself from overseeing the readings of the bill in order to create the appearance of objectivity.

BREAKING: Ethics Committee of Nigeria's Senate called off CCT Chaiman summon

Ethics Committee of @NGRSenate has called off the summon extended to the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Danladi Umar.

The Nigerian Senate Ethics Committee composed of 11 members met today at the National Assembly in Abuja and hastily decided to jettison plans to summon the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Danlami Umar.



It was today learnt that members of the tribunal buckled under pressure as they received many calls from constituents condemning the move.

Last week, the telephone numbers of all Nigerian lawmakers released to the public and yesterday followed up by releasing names and numbers of members of the Ethics Committee including a new mobile number secretly acquired by the chair of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyawu.
