My piece today is not going to be popular with some people. But everything is not all about criticizing government. It is equally important to praise where government has done well and that is what this piece is about. It is a focus on the governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. The idea is not to whitewash him or paint him in negative colours, rather, it’s to tell the story of Osun the way it really is, based on a visit to the state recently.

Indeed, I have always been accused of being unsparing in my criticisms of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but what those who have formed such opinions failed to understand is that as journalists, we have a huge responsibility to write in ways that would elevate the country and make it better than it is. To educate, if need be, praise and criticise in order to bring improvement into the society. Such huge responsibility is not personal and is devoid of partisanship. If it had been the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the saddle today, I would also have been unsparing in my criticism.

June 12 remains Democracy Day - Aregbesola, Says May 29 is an offshoot of June 12

Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described June 12, 1993 as the most suitable and proper day to mark democracy day in Nigeria.
Aregbesola, in his address marking the 23rd anniversary of June 12, said it was the date Nigerians freely expressed their choice on whom to be their leader and a day of unequivocal affirmation of the unity of the country by Nigerians across all divides.

He said Nigerians and lovers of democracy will remain committed to June 12 as a political watershed in the annals of the nation, saying May 29 only symbolises the day the military handed over the affairs of the country to a democratically elected government.

Banishing Poverty Remains Our Top Priority Says Aregbesola

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has reiterated his government’s determination to stamping out the scourge of poverty in the state.

Aregbesola also reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to ensure all-round development by creating wealth, empowering youths and generating employment through participatory agricultural engagement.
The Governor made the statement while addressing farmers during a meeting tagged “Abekoko”, at Alaye Village, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

Aregbesola who described farmers as “kings” said his administration had come up with a life-changing policy that would continuously transform the lives of the rural dwellers.

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has reiterated his administration’s commitment to continuously improve the economy of the state by focusing on agriculture for self sufficiency of the state.

The Governor also stated that his government would not relent in its effort to harness all resources the state is endowed with for an enhanced economy.

He said these are the reasons why Osun remains the best destination for investors who might also coming in from China as a result of the recent trade investment agreement between Nigeria and China.

Aregbesola gave the assurance while addressing a gathering of business investors at a dinner party organised by the state Government in honour of Chinese investors at the Government House in Osogbo.

ANALYSIS OF THE MATTERS OF O-STATE OF OSUN STATE

I'm particularly interested on whether Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, O-State governor , performed well or not during his 5 years in Office as 27th November approaches.
Some are of the opinion that the O-governor has turned the State around while others are of the opinion that the O-governor has not justified the resources at his disposal with the tarrying projects he was making media promotion all around about.

This is a program of the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the education sector to build new structures in the selected public Schools.

The government promised to construct 20 High Schools, 25 Middle Schools and 40 Elementary Schools across the state.

BREAKING NEWS: OSUN ELECTION TRIBUNAL DISMISSES OMISORE'S CASE FOR LACK OF MERIT

The election petition tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the Osun state capital has dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in that last year state governorship election which saw the incumbent governor of the state Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola retained the seat for the next four years.

Contrary to the unnecessary and wide jubilation by the PDP supporters  since the both party closed their cases at tribunal and yesterday in Osogbo, the Tribunal dismissed the petition for lack of merit in all ramification and that the incumbent is duly and validly elected.


The Leading tribunal member, Justice Elizabeth Ipejime on Friday at the High Court in Osogbo declared  governor Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress winner of the election tribunal.

Aregbesola who had defeated PDP’s Senator Iyiola Omisore during the polls with 392, 284 votes to 292, 742 votes but the results were contested by Omisore and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Both Aregbesola and Omisore were absent in court but were ably represented by their party’s agents.


On allegations of over-voting, the Tribunal ruled that no single evidence of over-voting was proved by the petitioners.

On allegation of using O'Yes as INEC officials, there is no such evidence on record as what they have are two O'Yes member who testified as agent and not INEC official

The tribunal ruled that the Petitioners failed to prove allegations of improper accreditation.

On the allegation of non stamping of result by the Petitioners, the Tribunal ruled that the result sheets were properly signed and stamped.

On the allegations of intimidation and prevention of people from voting, the tribunal ruled that there was no evidence to that effect.

Also, the Tribunal ruled that there is nothing expert in the so called expert witness report.

On the complaints that INEC did not call witness, the Tribunal ruled that the petitioners is duty bound to discharge the onus to prove the allegations.

In this case the petitioners failed to prove their allegations to warrant INEC calling evidence.

DEMOCRATIC VICTORY OVER THE TYRANNY OF POWER

After an unnecessarily tense, tortuous and even traumatic process, the Independent National Electoral Commission this morning declared me as the winner of the Osun state governorship election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). On behalf of my party, we are delighted to claim victory for our hard work, focus and dedication in this election. 
I thank the Almighty God for our triumph at the polls, against all odds.

To the good people of Osun State goes our unflinching gratitude. We salute your steadfastness, courage, loyalty, commitment and fierce determination to defend your sovereign rights. You have demonstrated in this election that in a democracy, power truly belongs to the people. I am humbled and honoured by your trust and abiding faith in me and my party. I pledge that your confidence in us shall never be betrayed or taken for granted.

Ordinarily, this should be a moment of joy and celebration consequent upon the hard earned triumph of the people’s will. However, this election shows that democracy is still gravely endangered in Nigeria. We witnessed gross abuse of power and, of due process before, during, and even after the actual voting process. It is so sad and unfortunate that what should be a normal, routine process was maliciously allowed to snowball in to a needless virtual war by the Federal Government and the PDP.

Osun 2014: Aregbesola’s Popularity Soars

The second term bid of the governor, State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the August 9 governorship election, has received a boost, as findings of a survey scored him high in terms of popularity.

In the report of a survey conducted by a socio-political group, Good Governance Vanguard (GGV), Aregbesola has 82 per cent chance of winning the election, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Iyiola Omisore, has 9 per cent chance.

The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, according to the report, has 7 per cent chance of winning, while other political parties shared 2 per cent, with an error margin of 2.5 per cent.

Ado Bayero used traditional institution to promote peace, progress of Nigeria - Aregbesola

Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described the death of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, as a huge loss to Nigeria.

In a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola said the news of the demise of one the most prominent traditional rulers in the country was shocking and sad.

The governor said the nation lost the influential Emir at its critical socio-political challenges.

He said that Ado Bayero's death will leave a huge gap in the political, social, security and religious affairs of the nation.

Abuja Bombers: "They Are Lunatics and Beasts, Not Human Beings!" - Aregbesola

The Governor of tha state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Adergbesola, has forthrightly condemned  the Iyanyan Bombb blast believed to have been perpetrated by the Boko Haram Islamist Terrorists.

Aregbesola said: "They are lunatics and beasts, hot human beings, those criminally bombing of innocent citizens "

Ogbeni made the assertion today, during the church service to mark 3rd Session of the 9th Synod of the All Saints Anglican Church, Osogbo Diocese. He condemned the barbaric and criminal bombing of innocent citizens for the second time in barely two weeks at Nyanya Abuja, by the Boko Haram troublers of Nigeria.

According to him, this heinous act shows that the perpetrators have lost all sense of humanity. He said it takes a psychopath to slaughter innocent children and kidnap 234 underage girls from school.

 "To call them terrorists is to dignify them, they are beasts, they are lunatics. We must pray for this rain of shame to cease falling upon our dear and beloved country." the Governor further said.

Iyanyan May Day Blast: Jonathan, Sambo to Storm Osun for PDP Governorship Campaign

The Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Vice President Namadi Sambo are scheduled to storm Osogbo, the Osun state capital for PDP rally and campaign to reclaim the state in the August 9 Governorship election

Osun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore confirmed this while expressing his readiness and determination to to wrest power from the incumbent Governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. He added that the national secretariat of the party in Abuja had already constituted national campaign council for Osun election, aimed at ensuring landslide victory for the PDP at the governorship poll slated for August 9 this year.

The President and the Vice President as well as the top PDP stalwarts are expected to  to storm the state even amidst the everyday bombing, killing and kidnapping of the Nigerian. The another Iyanyan May Day blast also claims many lives while scores of others were severely injured.

Crimea war: Osun medical students in Ukraine assure Govt, parents that they are safe

Osun state university medical students studying in Ukraine have assured government, parents and well wishers that they are safe and not in any way affected by the Crimea crises, a Ukrainian peninsula surged into heightening tension and political unrest for many days now!

The Osun Medical students in Ukraine have through a letter, signed by its president, Mr. Samuel Owoeye  under the aegis of H.N. Karazin Kharvis National University State of Osun Medical Students informed the state government that the political rancour in Crimea did not extend to where they are studying.

"We are fully secured going about our studies and not witnessing any of the chaotic situations in Ukraine's Crimea. We only watch online just like every other citizen of the world is doing."
