LIBERATION THEOLOGY v. PROSPERITY GOSPEL

Thinking With You.. On Sunday...

My friends, let's look at the earliest missionaries from the Seventh Day Adventist, Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic who came to Nigeria and established schools and hospitals for the needy and poor Nigerians. The two institutions - schools and hospitals - were affordable, accessible, and of the highest quality. Children were educated. The sick were healed. Through the two projects, jobs were created, and standard of life was improved and sustained. These are part of the Great Commission the Bible speaks about in addition to winning souls, delivering the spiritually oppressed and people in perpetual bondage. This gospel of the Good News is called Theology of Liberation.

Now, the mission of the noon day Pentecostal noise makers is diametrically opposed to the mission of Theology of Liberation. Theirs is known as Prosperity Gospel firmly rooted in money and material acquisition and accumulation which is why their slogan is "the more you sow, the more you reap." Meaning the more money you give the more money you are blessed with. In reality, it's not true. It only requires simple logic test to prove them wrong.

WHY IS NORTH SO PRODUCTIVE AND YET SO POOR ?

Each time I travel across Northern states, all I see along the road is wealth, wealth, and more wealth.

From Kano to Katsnia to Zamfara and beyond. The sight of endless farmlands on both sides of the road is just amazing.

Despite this level of agricultural productivity, there still seem to be a high level of poverty in the North. This is what confuses me. The world can live without crude oil but cannot live without food. The people in food business are suppose to be more comfortable and self-sustaining than the oil-business people. Yet in Nigeria, it is the reverse.

According to CBN statistics, Nigeria spends N1Billion daily importing rice alone. That is N365Billion annually for rice only. The North is now positioned to have a majority share in this business. If you add all the agricultural produce of the North and check the statistics and the cash flow, you will see that the North has no relationship with poverty. Another statistic shows that Nigeria spends N24Trillion annually on food consumption. If the North dominates the agriculture sector, then they have no relationship with poverty.

NIGER DELTA AVENGERS: HAS CRUDE OIL BECOME A CURSE? BY NDPM

The NIGER DELTA PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT will not stop talking

After the amalgamation of the Nigerian State in 1914 and the very day crude oil was discovered in a large commercial quantity and quality in the rural community of Oloibiri in present day Bayelsa State of Niger Delta Region: Peaceful co-existence and harmony eluded us. It ushered in violence, inter and intra-Communal conflicts, hate, underdevelopment, poverty, ecological damage, youths restiveness and neglect became normal way of live in the communities where these rare natural resources were deposited by nature.

The NIGER DELTA PEOPLE'S MOVEMENT also observed that, over the years, our resources have been used to sustain the political administrative live wire of Nigeria to the exclusion of the region. It is worthy of note that, Niger Delta witnessed the emergence of very great and prominent sons and daughters, who effortlessly without recourse to violence agitated for regional transformation and human capacity development. They were coordinated, peaceful, wise and had the people's plight as their driving force and source of inspiration.

We must end the vicious circle of poverty in Nigeria says Speaker Yakubu Dogara

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has called on leaders and top ranking public officials to engage in direct intervention to alleviate the suffering of the people in their communities and give them better living conditions.

The Speaker, who made this call in the National Assembly when he received a non profit organisation that engages in medical outreaches in the urban areas, Doctors On The Move Africa, in his office, said he has resolved to continue to reach out through medical missions to the people with a view to alleviating poverty and improve their living conditions.

5 Quick Suggestions for Nigerian Relation with the International Community -

Our President has travelled a lot to parley the international community. No doubt his integrity has earned him and the country greet respect from various “world leaders”. We wish him well and do not intend to join the debate as to if he should travel less or travel more. Rather, we want to offer some little points with regards to how to earn respect from the International community. Enjoy.

1. Promote your Culture and Values

A large hunk of the greatness of the Western world is promotion of its culture. America owes more thanks to Michael Jackson, James Bond, 2Pac, and Hollywood than it owes its graduate in terms of the world view of America as a super power. Unfortunately these are the people who taught the world to dress, talk, think, and act like Americans. This is why it was more fanciful in Africa to use American products and operate American system of Government, both of which puts you under the country in terms of economy and leadership respectively.

Buhari lacks political will to address Fulani/farmers challenge –Junaid Mohammed

Dr Mohammed Junaid in this interview, blamed the recurring Fulani herdsmen, farmers clashes on government’s inability to muster political will to address the matter. On the issue of governance , he picked holes in the style of President Muhamnadu Buhari, insisting that the appointments made so far by the President were not such that could inspire hope among Nigerians. Excerpts:

What do you make of the blame game going on over herdsmen/ farmers clashes?

Thank you very much for describing the situation as nothing but political blame game. As far as I am concerned, if a government has the political will to solve a problem, and that will and attitude towards any political problem is perhaps a reflection of the attitude of the elite themselves, that problem can be solved. The central issue here is having the political will.

Fundamental Flaw Of Nigeria Structure

The current structure of Nigeria and the thinking that led to it is fundamentally flawed. The crude thinking was to bring "development" to the grassroots under a feeding bottle formula from the center - Abuja (or Lagos before then). So people (politicians) were complaining that "when money gets to Ibadan it is spent in Ibadan (by Ibadan people) and does not reach Oshogbo". Solution: give them Osun State so that money can go to Oshogbo. When money gets to Enugu it is spent by the Nike people. Solution: give them Ebonyi and Anambra so that development can reach there under the same feeding bottle formula.
