Progress report on the Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) - Osinbajo

The National Home Grown School Feeding scheme, part of our Social Investment Programmes has kicked off in Anambra this past December, in collaboration with the state government. The children have been feeding and enjoying their healthy, well prepared meals.

Generally, the Homegrown School Feeding programme, which is one of the Social Investment plans of the Buhari presidency, is driven through community participation where residents in the community are engaged as cooks to provide feeding services. Also the programme leverages on the agricultural produce available within the communities.

The Homegrown School Feeding programme of the Buhari administration will not only boost school enrollment and improve the nutritional status of the pupils, it would also stimulate local farming, while equally creating jobs including the 774 cooks now in gainful employment in Anambra State.

As the Buhari administration proceeds with the implementation of its Social Investment Programmes, the Federal Government has now released over N375 million this year to feed almost 700,000 primary school pupils in 5 states, while virtually all States of the federation, except two, are now being processed for the payment of N30,000 monthly Stipends to 200,000 graduates, the N-Power Beneficiaries.

Giving a Media Update in Abuja on Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity to the President, Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande said the Buhari Social Investment Programmes, SIP, are proceeding at different stages of implementation.

According to him, regarding the Homegrown School Feeding Programme, the Federal Government last week released money for this year, to the States of Anambra, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ebonyi to cover the feeding for 10 school days.

Aregbesola grants amnesty to 4 death-row inmates

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun on Wednesday granted amnesty to four death-row prison inmates in three South West prisons.

The Director of Public Prosecutions and Secretary to the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Mr Pomade Adeniji, announced the amnesty in a statement in Osogbo.

The statement said the governor’s gesture was in commemoration of the New Year celebrations.

“Pursuant to the advice and recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, in exercise of his powers, has granted amnesty to the prison inmates,’’ the statement said.

There is now a significant progress in the implementation of the Social Investment Programmes of the Buhari Presidency with the commencement of the N-Power Volunteers Corps, NPVC, and the Homegrown School Feeding Programme in the last few weeks.

Making this assertion Monday in Abuja is the Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande.

“Right now verification exercises are going on very well across the states of the federation, regarding the 200,000 first batch of the half a million unemployed graduates being engaged to serve in their communities teaching, supporting the healthcare systems and educating farmers,” he disclosed while giving an update on the social investment programmes.

In another rollout of one of the Social Investment Programmes of the Buhari administration, the National Homegrown School Feeding scheme has entered implementation stage with the feeding of primary school pupils in Anambra State today.

Biafra Agitation: The Dimension Of The Argument

I have been prompted to express my thoughts on the Biafra agitation by the dimension the argument has taken, especially where spin-doctors who are known agents of divide-and-rule have gone back to their usual work of dividing the indigenous people of Biafra. The major aim of these divide-and-rule elements who tend to cry more than the bereaved is to use the instrumentality of the media to tag the Biafra agitation an Igbo “affair”. The irony of the debate is that majority of those divide-and-rule advocates who have sworn to keep inciting Biafrans against each other are non-Biafrans. I think the future or restoration of Biafra should strictly be left for indigenous people of Biafra to decide.

Nigeria: Confronting The Curse Of Oil By Reuben Abati

The monthly Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting was held the other day in Abuja, with the representatives of state governments again cap in hand, asking for their share of federal revenue – read: oil revenue, or better still, national cake, or our money.

A paragraph in the report by the online newspaper, Premium Times, caught my attention and here it is: “But at the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, meeting, representatives of the 36 state governments went home SAD (emphasis mine), as they were handed parlous shares from a total N299.75 billion statutory allocation for the month, the lowest allocations in more than five years.” For the month of March 2016, the states shared N55.34 billion, compared to N64.52 billion in February 2016. I have deliberately emphasized the word sad,because the day may well come when after the sharing of national revenue, we may be told that some Commissioners of Finance left the meeting crying, or wailing.

To prevent that happening this time, the Federal Government chose to suspend deductions of salary repayment loans owed by the states. When such deductions were made in February 2016, at least one state, Osun, went back home with a paltry N6 million only. The truth is that most of the 36 states are in dire straits, worst hit by the economic crisis that the country faces. About 27 out of the 36 states of the Federation are effectively insolvent, if not bankrupt. In July 2015, the Federal Government not only bailed out the states financially, the Central Bank of Nigeria further extended the repayment period for bank loans taken by the states from a period of seven years to 20 years. So far the affected states have collected salary assistance loans from the CBN to the tune of N689.5 billion, with an additional N310 billion as loans backed by the Excess Crude Account.

This was revealed by Mrs Funso Adegbola, boss of The Vale Tutorial College Ibadan
Chief Bola Ige was the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice as well as Minister of Power and Steel of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 1999 to 2001. He was also the former Governor of Old Oyo State (now split into Oyo and Osun states) from 1979 to 1983. His passion for free, qualitative education for the children of the poor was unrivalled as he diligently implemented a programme of free education at all levels in Oyo State when he was governor. This feat is yet to be surpassed in the state. He was assassinated by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on 23 December 2001 in his house.

Fundamental Flaw Of Nigeria Structure

The current structure of Nigeria and the thinking that led to it is fundamentally flawed. The crude thinking was to bring "development" to the grassroots under a feeding bottle formula from the center - Abuja (or Lagos before then). So people (politicians) were complaining that "when money gets to Ibadan it is spent in Ibadan (by Ibadan people) and does not reach Oshogbo". Solution: give them Osun State so that money can go to Oshogbo. When money gets to Enugu it is spent by the Nike people. Solution: give them Ebonyi and Anambra so that development can reach there under the same feeding bottle formula.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APC AND PDP

Although Nuhu Ribadu while porting to the Ruling Peoples Democratc Party said there are no diffrence between the Opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, and his new  rulling party, PDP, but we can actually pick the diffrences between the two.

1. There are only 2 states in Nigeria running Free Education from Primary school to the University (Kano and Imo) APC controlled States

2. There are only two states giving the masses poor masses alternative means of Transportation MONORAIL 1st in Nigeria Electric driven Train Lagos by Fashola and River by Ameachi Controlled by APC.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Iyiola Omisore, has revealed that the federal government plans to flood Osun with Hausa soldiers one week before the August 9th election in a decisive show of force to secure PDP victory.

The PDP aspirant was recorded on tape threatening to deal with APC leaders in their homes in a bid to paralyze the party operatives and take control of the electoral process and fake victory at the polls.

But to divert public attention from its evil plot, the PDP has rushed to press shortly after Omisore’s outrageous revelation during a rally at Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government to accuse the APC of being behind terrorism and violence in the state in the run-up to the election.

We are quick to kill the better people in our society or to drag them down into the mud with us. We are uncomfortable with the notion that some people can be good while we swim in our filth. We resent the notion of such arrogance. We don’t understand it, so we destroy it.

Abel, Noah, Lot, Jesus, Mohammed. Just a few names of men people either tried to kill or did kill for the simple fact that they we were better than the rest. In Jesus’ case, we even went as far as to accept the likelihood of a curse. It didn’t matter. All we wanted was for the man to be dead. The world hates good guys.

Ekiti: God has rejected the Almajiri People's Congress (APC) By Fani-Kayode

The days of fooling the people and winning elections by propaganda, intimidation, lies, threats and coercion are long over.

Once again I offer a hearty congratulations to my friend Ayo Fayose and to the leadership of the Ekiti state PDP on their historic victory in the governorship election that took place in their state yesterday. The people of Ekiti have spoken and their choice MUST be respected by all.

My heart goes out to my brother Kayode Fayemi who clearly lost the election but who remains not only a man of honour but also one of the finest minds in the country. He is certainly one of the most cerebal, disciplined, compassionate and civilsed leaders that the APC has within it's ranks and one of those that gave it some semblence of integrity and credibility.

The just concluded gubernatorial election in Ekiti is one of the worst conducted in Nigeria history. Though the urbane and peace loving incumbent governor Kayode Fayemi has congratulated Fayose for the undeserved victory, the saturday June 21 election is not free, fair and credible. Many social network activist may believe otherwise, forgetting unsavoury events towards the election.


What is free in an election in which votes were bought with money, in which the so called winner and his agents including the Minister of defence paid #3000 - #5000 to be voted for. You called an election in which the labour party candidate Bamidele Opeyemi was paid billions of naira to ask his supporters to vote for Fayose overnight?

Ekiti/Osun Guber Polls: US faults Tinubu over ‘rig and roast’ threat

The United States of America has faulted threat comments by top Nigerian politicians, including the leader of the All Progressives Congress, Sen. Bola Tinubu, ahead of the forthcoming elections in Ekiti
and Osun States.

While the governorship election in Ekiti State is expected to hold on June 21, that of Osun is scheduled to hold on August 9. It would be recalled that Tinubu had during his investiture as Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, threatened that riggers in the elections would be roasted.

Egbe Omo Yoruba Calls For Election Integrity In Ekiti, Osun

A North America-based group, Egbe Omo Yoruba in North America (EOYNA) has urged stakeholders in Ekiti and Osun states to ensure free and fair elections in the forthcoming governorship elections in the states.

In a statement signed by its National President, Agbaakin Bolu Omodele, the group urged the people of the two states to reflect on the past experiences of the region and learn from them.

Aregbesola Re-Election: Oyinlola, Adeleke, Others Set to Join APC by Saturday

Arrangements have been concluded by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to receive two former governors of the state, Mr. Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and their supporters into the ruling party in the state next Saturday.

Apart from the two governors, also set to defect are the former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mufutau Gbadebo Ayinde, state Deputy Chairman of PDP, Dr. Bashiru Salami and other prominent PDP members in the state.

In 1982 was an action powerhouse movie called RAMBO which starred Sylvester Stallone as a Vietnam veteran who used his advanced military techniques, machine guns and bare hands to fight off the entire police force of a few towns. RAMBO turned these towns into warfronts with his armaments. In Nigeria, there is now our own RAMBO in Vice-President, Namadi Sambo who has promised that Osun and Ekiti states will be warfronts in the coming gubernatorial elections. This time, he seems to be promising us; it will not be a movie!

What is making this threat more unsettling is the optics of several incidents we now see in the aftermath of the statement. A couple of days after the utterance, we saw Ayo Fayose, the Ekiti ambassador in the state Governorship election cladded in a bullet-proof vest during a campaign event. That confirms that some kind of war is looming in that state. Musiliu Obanikoro, Minister of State of Defense mobilized men in army uniform to the site of the Ondo bye-election that was just concluded. The location was filled with pandemonium and violence and INEC indicted him.

15 States, Include Osun and Ekiti Are Most Prone To Electoral Violence by 2015 General Elections

A non-governmental organisation CLEEN Foundation has revealed through its research that 15 states in Nigeria may be destabilised by electoral violence during the 2015 general elections.


The organisation made the revelations in Abuja on April 9, 2014, Wednesday, while presenting the report titled 'Third Security Threat Assessment'. The NGO, which promotes public safety, security, and access to justice, warned of high security risks in the spotted areas during the 2015 general elections.

According to CLEEN Foundation, the states to watch out for as 'most volatile' are: Adamawa, Benue, Borno, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Osun, Plateau, Rivers, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.
