Biafra Agitation: The Dimension Of The Argument

I have been prompted to express my thoughts on the Biafra agitation by the dimension the argument has taken, especially where spin-doctors who are known agents of divide-and-rule have gone back to their usual work of dividing the indigenous people of Biafra. The major aim of these divide-and-rule elements who tend to cry more than the bereaved is to use the instrumentality of the media to tag the Biafra agitation an Igbo “affair”. The irony of the debate is that majority of those divide-and-rule advocates who have sworn to keep inciting Biafrans against each other are non-Biafrans. I think the future or restoration of Biafra should strictly be left for indigenous people of Biafra to decide.

When they launched the 'Operation Crocodile Smile', we wailed and questioned the rationale behind the operation. We argued that the operation was a fraud and will not solve any problem in the Niger Delta, rather it will compound it. Today, that operation alone has made the Niger Deltans more united in seeing the federal government as their common enemy. Has operation crocodile smile ended? Is there still oil bunkering in the Niger Delta (and oh yes, is the army still not complicit in the oil bunkering industry)? What about militancy? What did the operation crocodile smile achieve? How much was spent?

The Nigerian army has launched another operation in the South-East code named 'Operation Python Dance'. Another job for the army generals.

I have tried to measure the contribution of the Igbos to the development of the Nigerian project and the conclusion I have reached is that Nigeria must do everything possible to get the Igbos to remain in the Nigerian union. They (Igbos) have contributed unprecedentedly to the development of Nigeria in EVERY sector. All the Igbos that have abused me for being sagacious and understanding things and sharing them with them must at some point apologize to me.

I was fresh out of graduate school, worked only four years, after quitting my teaching job and working for a county mental health division (age 34) when the white man saw me as unusually talented in mental health matters and made me the executive director of his county mental health agency in Portland Oregon. I supervised psychiatrists who were older than my father. Folks used to ask where I got my brains and knowledge.

Because I was married to a white woman, her culture directed me to white folks; I stayed away from Nigerians. After years of staying away from Africans I came to their midst and read the abusive stuff they write. It did not take me long to realize that the slave selling culture they lived in, for over three hundred years, damaged their self-esteem and perception of each other. They put each other down
(Njakiri) for they had to devalue each other to be able to sell them into slavery.

importance and power, he said, is a mask over underlying sense of inferiority and inadequacy.

The paranoid person feels excruciatingly inadequate and fears death; he refused to accept that reality, for if he did he would be depressed.

Instead, he denied his depression, at least, at the conscious mind level and places his spurious sense of superiority over other people in his conscious mind.

In this light, many Igbos feel totally inferior and inadequate and deny it at the level and instead place in their conscious minds their false sense of superiority to other African tribes. They are always comparing themselves to other tribes and to the extent that they think that they approximate white man’s indices of civilization (such as go to school, obtain degrees etc.) they boast about it. They constantly tell people that they are a superior people.

The white man sees Africans as inferior people and instead of fighting him Igbos tells their fellow Africans that the white man sees them as the smartest Africans! Why? It is because the white man admits a few of them to his top universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, MIT, Berkeley, UCLA, Oxford and Cambridge.

National Conference: LAMIDO'S ABUJA GAFFE

THE Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha, is turning out to be quite an outstanding delegate to the ongoing National Conference. I can imagine, by now, his colleagues will stop their side-talks, whisperings and murmurings whenever the royal turban is given the microphone to speak.

In the two recorded episodes when he addressed issues arising in the gathering, he has managed to ruffle feathers, raise hackles and stoke ethno-religious temperatures, including hurling an outright direct personal insult at a colleague, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, whom he accused of “ranting”. It beats me that the Chairman of the Conference, Justice Legbo Kutigi, did not caution or ask him to apologise to Adebanjo. I shudder at a situation where the situation were turned the other way round and Adebanjo calls the emir’s obvious incendiary contributions a “rant”. It would probably get Hausa/Fulanis and Yorubas stabbing at each other all over the streets of Northern and Western Nigeria, heavens forbid.
