Vice President Osinbajo inaugurates National Prosecution Coordination Committee on Friday

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON is expected to inaugurate the National Prosecution Coordination Committee (NPCC) which is primarily charged with the handling high profile cases having public interest elements in Nigeria.

The formation of the Committee which will be inaugurated on Friday, 27th May, 2016 at the Presidential Villa, going by its spokesman, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah is pursuant to the powers vested on the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN as the nation’s Chief Law Officer as contained in Section 174(1) of the 1999 Constitution.

PRESIDENT BUHARI REASSURES ECOWAS COMMISSION OF NIGERIA'S FULL SUPPORT

President Muhammadu Buhari pledged on Thursday in Abuja that Nigeria will continue to meet all its obligations to the ECOWAS Commission.

Receiving the new President of the Commission, Mr Marcel Alain de Souza at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari assured him that Nigeria will go on playing its leadership role in ECOWAS.

According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari told Mr de Souza that the Federal Government will also strive to show a good example to others by meeting all its financial obligations to the sub-regional organisation.

PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA OF CAMEROON ARRIVES FOR STATE VISIT TO NIGERIA TOMORROW

President Paul Biya of Cameroon, will at the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari, begin a two-day state visit to Nigeria tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

In a statement issued today by the Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media & Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina said President Biya, who will be accompanied by his wife, Chantal and senior Cameroonian government officials, will be received tomorrow afternoon at the Presidential Villa, Abuja by the Nigerian President.

Both leaders and their officials will confer on issues of common interest to Nigeria and Cameroon, including ongoing bilateral and regional cooperation against terrorism, violent extremism and cross-border crimes.

The Nigerian Cabinet members today take the oath of office as President Muhammadu Buhari charges them that they must proceed to work speedily to fulfill the confidence reposed in them.

President Buhari has sworn in all 37 ministers he appointed recently.

Former governors Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, and 34 others took the oath of office on Wednesday at the presidential villa.

Security was on Thursday morning beefed up around the Presidential Villa as marches and rallies to keep the pressure on Abuja officials keenly fixed on the whereabouts and the rescue of over 250 young female students in Borno, continues. Perhaps the most dramatic Nigerian gathering will bring the pressure to the door of the president’s home.

In a press release by the group, there was an announcement of the march to the presidential villa set for Thursday the 22nd of May. The release read in part:

Nigerian President, Dr.  Goodluck Jonathan has on Tuesday held a closed doors with a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Fani-Kayode who is one of the major critics of the present administration, attended the meeting which was held inside the President’s office with an unidentified man.

The former Aviation  minister, told State House correspondents after the meeting that lasted about an hour that there was nothing unusual for him to visit the President, affirming he was delighted he did so. “This is a Presidential Villa, the President is a President of Nigeria and every single person in this country that is a Nigerian is entitled to come here from time to time, when the doors are open to come and pay their respect to the wonderful people that are here. Former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar described it as ‘mind-boggling’ in a recent interview. The killings at the headquarters of the State Security Service, SSS, a stone throw from the Presidential villa, as a result of an alleged jailbreak clearly shows the huge security challenges the present administration is currently facing.

Abuja Gun Battle Updates: DSS statement

The spokesperson for the DSS, Marilyn Ogar issued a statement earlier today on the attempted jailbreak at the Abuja headquarters of the Nigeria’s secret police.

Her Statement:

“At 0715 hours, the Service suspect handler went to the detention facility within the Headquarters to feed the suspects.

“One of the suspects attempted to disarm him by hitting him at the back of his head with his handcuff.

Abuja Gun Battle: 20 Boko Haram suspects killed

At least, 20 Boko Haram detainees have been shot dead in a shout-out that ensued this morning at the Department of State Security Service in the Asokoro a district of Abuja. Shoutout erupted when some of the suspected terrorists attempted to free their members and leave the detention facility, which is by the precincts of the Presidential Villa.


The President Jonathan's special adviser on media and publicity, Dr Reuben Abati said the incident Neither affected President Goodluck Jonathan Nor the Aso-Aock Villa. He made public, the statement through his twitter's page.

Abuja Shooting: Nothing Do Mr President - Reuben Abati

The President Jonathan spokesperson, Reuben Abati said that Abuja shootout was an attempted jail break which the security Operatives foiled and has not in anyway affect President Goodluck Jonathan.

What happened at the SSS HQ this morning was an attempted jailbreak which has been effectively foiled. There is no cause for alarm.

He said the Sunday Morning gunshots heard in the vicinity of the Presidential villa was actually from the SSS Headquarters which is in the area.

Full Security in Aso Rock as Gun Battle Erupts at Abuja SSS Headquarters - Sunday Punch

Security was quickly beefed up around the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Sunday morning as heavy shootings were recorded at the neighbouring headquarters of the State Security Service known as Yellow House. The SSS headquarters is located behind the Villa.

The access gate to the seat of power through the Fire Service office in Asokoro was quickly shut while more heavily armed soldiers were seen at the gate leading to the Villa through the Federal Secretariat.  Military helicopters were also seen hovering the sky at the time of filing this report.
