The CIA has marked the anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden by live-tweeting -- with a five-year delay -- the raid by US special forces on the Al-Qaeda founder's compound in Pakistan.

US Barack Obama 'set to release' secret 28 pages of 9/11 report, There is speculation that Saudi officials may likely support the attacks

The US government appears set to release at least part of a 28-page classified chapter from the 9/11 report that may point the finger of Saudi collusion into the attacks that struck New York and Washington.

The former head of a bi-partisan committee that investigated the attacks that left more than 3,000 people dead and published its findings, said he believed the Obama administration would make a decision on the issue by June.

The unreleased documents, kept in a secure room in the basement of the Capitol building in Washington DC, contain information from the joint congressional inquiry into “specific sources of foreign support for some of the September 11 hijackers while they were in the United States”.

Mr Graham, a former Democratic senator, said a government official told him that intelligence officials will decide in the next several weeks whether to release at least parts of the documents. The disclosure would come at a time of strained US relations with Saudi Arabia, a long-time American ally.

OFFICIAL: WHO announces removal of Nigeria from polio-endemic list

The World Health Organization (WHO) has on Monday formally removes Nigeria from the list of polio-endemic countries. 

The announcement comes after the historic achievement of the country in interrupting the transmission of wild polio-virus for a period of 15 months, which exceeds WHO’s target for interruption. Only 2 countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan) remain polio-endemic, down from more than 125 in 1988.

To recognize this landmark achievement, the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, attended an official ceremony at the State House to formally announce to the Government of Nigeria, through President Muhammadu Buhari, WHO’s decision to remove Nigeria from the polio-endemic list.

Chibok: We will not stop until the missing schoolgirls are returned home - President Jonathan

Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan maintained that his silence over the disappearance of schoolgirls in his country was to protect the rescue mission and promised that Nigeria “will not stop until the girls are returned home and the thugs who took them are brought to justice.”

Jonathan said he was “deeply concerned” that by not giving updates on the ongoing search for the missing girls -- who were abducted by the terrorist organization Boko Haram in mid-April -- his administration was seen as weak or inactive.

“My silence has been necessary to avoid compromising the details of our investigation,” Jonathan said. “But let me state this unequivocally: My government and our security and intelligence services have spared no resources, have not stopped and will not stop until the girls are returned home and the thugs who took them are brought to justice.”

The Sultan is even larger than life if you add the reality of his military back-ground to the fact that before he ascended his ancestors’ throne, he was the Defence Attach? to Pakistan – a country loaded with terrorism. His recent declaration, that “terrorism has no place in Islam”, though coming belatedly, is worthy of clinical and comprehensive evaluation therefore. But first, we must give kudos to the vibrant prominent Northern Nigerian rights activist and author; Shehu Sani, for prompting the Sultan into speaking on the Boko Haram and Islam religion.

UN Map: Nigeria now an al-Qaeda affiliate country - UN

UN has added the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to its list of terrorist organisations formally recognised as being associated with al-Qaeda, according to a report by Defenseone.com. The listing puts Nigeria on the UN map of countries having an Al-Qaeda affiliate.

The website said the UN in its statement stated that Boko Haram, “has maintained a relationship with the Organisation of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb for training and material support purposes.”

President Goodluck Jonathan had on Thursday in a national broadcast declared a full war on the group following its abduction of over 200 school girls on April 14, 2014.

Fellow Nigerians, I greet and felicitate with you all, today, as we mark 15 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in our beloved country. 

Our dear nation, Nigeria, has certainly come a long way and made notable progress since our first Democracy Day on May 29, 1999 when the military finally relinquished power and handed over to a democratically-elected government, marking the true beginning of a government of the people, by the people, for the people.” 

Although I have ordered a low-key commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day in deference to the current mood of the nation, there can be no doubt that the past 15 years, the longest period of sustained democratic governance in our country, have been a blessing to us, as a people. 

As we commemorate 15 years of our Fourth Republic today therefore, I believe that it is fitting that we pay tribute once again to all those who played a part in restoring our nation to the true path of democratic governance, built on the foundations of rule of law and freedom of expression. 

As a result of our collective efforts since 1999, democratic governance is now entrenched in our nation and institutions. I wholeheartedly believe that our people are the better for it. The scope of fundamental rights and liberties enjoyed by our people over the past 15 years has been expanded beyond measure.
