Army Chief Brutai Says Boko Haram Militants Picked Wrong Fight With Wrong Enemy

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, on Saturday reassured Nigerians that the army will take every necessary step to restore normalcy across the northeast.

He says the Boko Haram militants that have in the last seven years pushed for the establishment of an Islamic State and an end to Western education in the region ‘picked the wrong fight against the wrong enemy’.

The COAS gave the assurance in Goneri and Buniyadi, two prominent frontline locations the Nigerian Army is currently prosecuting the Boko Haram war in Yobe State.

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said Boko Haram has devised a new strategy for recruiting youths in the northeast.

Brig. Gen. Rabe AAbubakar, in a statement said Boko Haram terrorists are at the moment giving loans to young entrepreneurs and artisans to induce them into the sect.

The statement reads: “It has come to the knowledge of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram terrorists have now devised another means of recruiting unsuspecting youths into their fold. In this clandestine dispensation, Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to providing loans to young entrepreneurs and artisans in the Northeast as a way of inducing them for recruitment.

How Nigerian Soldiers Dug Hole To Enter Boko Haram Kingpin’s Home In Kaduna - Military Source

A senior military officer at Nigeria’s Defense Headquarters in Abuja has shown how soldiers in Kaduna, the capital of Kaduna State, had to dig a tunnel to gain entry into the home of a Boko Haram kingpin. 

The military operation took place last Sunday, said the source, who took journalists to the location. According to military source, the Boko Haram operative died in an exchange of gunfire at his home located in the Kinkinau area of Kaduna town. The military officer disclosed that the Islamist kingpin and a few lower level terrorists had fled Boko Haram’s violence-prone northeast to different locations before arriving in Kaduna where they resettled with their families.

The Islamist henchman and his cohorts had virtually integrated themselves into their community in Kaduna and had adapted to the local setting. 

More than 60 women, girls escape their Boko Haram abductors;

Maiduguri - More than 60 women and girls abducted last month by suspected Boko Haram militants have escaped their captors, sources said Sunday, but more than 200 schoolgirls are still being held by the militants.

Local vigilante Abbas Gava said he had "received an alert from my colleagues ... that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home" late Friday.

A high-level security source in the Borno state capital Maiduguri, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the escape.

Breaking: Boko Haram Bombs Maduguri Market

The suspected Boko Haram militants have bombed the Maiduguri Monday Market. 

Eyewitnesses confirmed that a bomb exploded at the busy Monday Market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

Eyewitnesses said that the bomb went off during a busy morning at vicinity of the market. The number of casualties could not be immediately verified as security agencies arrive the scene to secure the market.

30 bodies recovered in Chibok villages after Boko Haram attacks

At least 30 bodies have been recovered from two communities near Chibok in Borno State where suspected Boko Haram militants attacked Sunday, members of a local vigilante group have said.

Members of the vigilante group said they found 30 corpses from surrounding bushes and Churches in Kwada and Kautikari villages. Search was continuing in the area, they said. Gunmen stormed Kwada and Kautikari early Sunday burning Churches and shooting worshippers.

The Borno State police spokesperson, Gideon Jubrin, said he was informed of the attack, but said he did not have full details as of Sunday afternoon. Mr. Jubrin said he was yet to contact the district police officer in charge of Chibok.

Boko Haram Gunmen kill "many" in attack on Borno village

Suspected Islamist Boko Haram militants stormed a village in Borno State on Saturday, killing several people and torching houses close to where more than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped two months ago, a witness said.

Clad in military uniforms, the attackers raided Koronginim in a convoy of sport utility and military vehicles, the witness told Reuters by telephone, asking not to be identified.

The attackers shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) before opening fire and killing "many", the witness said. "Two of their leaders were giving orders that they should shoot anyone on sight," the witness added.

Bomb attack Yobe spurs on Super Eagles

The Nigeria Super Eagles said on Wednesday that a bomb attack that killed at least 21 people watching a World Cup game in  state gives them added determination to do well in Brazil.

The bomb exploded in the midst of a crowd watching Brazil play Mexico on a giant screen in Damataru, capital of Yobe state, on Tuesday night.

The team held a minute's silence before they started training under the floodlights in Campinas, outside Sao Paulo, on Wednesday.

Chibok schoolgirls face rape danger says UN

The UN special representative on sexual violence in conflict says the abducted Nigerian schoolgirls "definitely" face the danger of being raped.

"My worry is those girls don't come back half of them pregnant," Zainab Hawa Bangura told a luncheon at the British Residence in New York on Friday.

She was meeting with editors, Tina Brown and the British ambassador to the US in preparation for a global summit next week in London on sexual violence in conflict. Angelina Jolie and British Foreign Secretary William Hague will co-chair.

3 Boko Haram Gunmen Arrested In Neighboring Niger after patrol ambushed

Three suspected members of the Islamist militants, Boko Haram sect have been arrested in neighboring Niger on Tuesday after they attacked an army patrol in the eastern region of Diffa, government and military sources said. Diffa, some 1,400 km east of Niger's capital Niamey, borders the Nigerian state of Borno, the epicenter of Boko Haram's uprising. The arid region has received tens of thousands of refugees from the fighting and local Niger officials have repeatedly voiced concerns over Boko Haram infiltration.

"An army patrol fell into a trap set by Boko Haram militants at Rouda, in the Chetimari commune of Diffa," a government source told Reuters. "The fighting lasted about an hour and the arrival of army reinforcements allowed us to take three prisoners, one of whom was wounded."

Islaamist Sects kill Seven on Maiduguri Highway

Suspected members of the deadly Islamist group, Boko Haram  have killed seven travelers along the Maiduguri-Biu road.

The outlawed Boko Haram fundamentalists  was alleged to have laid siege on the road on Saturday when its members killed seven persons, forcing many motorists to avoid the Maiduguri-Biu highway and some other major highways leading into the troubled town.

It was gathered that after the sect killed the unsuspecting travelers, they also stormed Gwargube, an adjoining village to the road where they were alleged to have summoned the villagers and threatened them to cooperate or be killed.

Boko Haram: Cameroon offers 700 soldiers to Lake Chad regional force

Cameroonian Defence Minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o has said on Thursday that his country will send 700 soldiers to northeastern border to help engage the Boko Haram insurgents in the area

This will be part of a regional force to tackle armed groups in an area where Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram operates.

Mebe Ngo'o mae statement at a two-day meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon's capital, where he affirmed that the six-nation Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) agreed to establish the multinational force to improve security in the lawless zone. This is in view of the infiltration by the Boko Haram militants into Cameroon's Far-North region, which they use as a launch pad for attacks in Nigeria, has led to mounting insecurity there.
