Mohammed Shuwa was murdered in his residence in Maiduguri, Borno State by suspected Boko Haram sect on November 2, 2012.

The retired military officer was the first General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army’s 1st Division.

Army Chief says No Boko Haram in the Southeast, Military battle ready to check all forms of security threat!

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, has allayed the fear of Nigerians living in the Southeast part of the country over possible infiltration by members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

He said that the few security threat recorded in the zone may not be blamed on the insurgents.

Speaking during his visit to the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze as part of the familiarization of 82 Division Enugu on Thursday, the COAS, noted that the two incidents in Imo and Abia state allegedly linked to the Islamic Sect may have been the handiwork of some elements within the zone which wanted to take advantage of the insurgency in the country to cause mischief.

Massive attack ongoing in Kautikari village near Chibok

An attack, described as massive by residents, is currently ongoing in Kautikari village, seven kilometres away from Chibok town in the southern part of Borno state.

An official of Department of Security Service confirmed the ongoing attack. “Yes, we also received the report, I believe action is being taken about now…but no one has been able to ascertain the nature or magnitude of the attack for now”, said the security source.

Villagers in Chibok made a distress call to journalists and security operatives in Maiduguri calling for urgent help.

How Nigeria Police discover 13 bombs in Kano mosque

There was pandemonium on Friday at about 2pm as Kano State Police Command uncovered 13 high caliber Improvised Explosive Devices, known as IEDs, at Sauna Fafunga in the Dakata area of Nasarawa Local Government Area

The incident occurred when Muslims were preparing to observe their Jumat prayers.

The terrorists who had parked a starlet car, ox-blood in colour, at about 2 P.M. near a Juma’at Mosque, had primed the IEDs waiting for the Juma’at prayer to commence before carrying out their act.

It was later learned that a 10-year old boy had notified the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Dakata, Superintendent Sani Ahmed, that he became suspicious and suspected a rickety car parked by the side of the Mosque.

Abuja Shopping Mall Bombing, Many Died as Soldiers Arrest One Suspect

The explosion which occurred at a major shopping mall, Emab Plaza, in Wuse 2, Abuja claimed many lives.
A witness said the explosion ‎occurred at about 4p.m at Emab Plaza, a busy shopping mall in the highbrow area of Nigeria’s capital city, on Aminu Kano Crescent.

This is the third deadly explosion in the Nigerian capital in two months. The extremist Boko Haram sect claimed responsibility for the two explosions in April and May in Nyanya, a suburb of the capital.

Reports has it that the Nigerian soldiers have killed one of the suspected bombers and arrested another. 

219 girls are still missing: Presidential Fact Finding Committee on Chibok schoolgirls submits report

The Chairperson of the Presidential Fact Finding Committee on the abducted Chibok girl, Ibrahim Sabo, has revealed that a total of 219 girls are still missing. Mr. Sabo, a retired brigadier general, disclosed this at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while presenting the report of the committee to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr. Sabo, who disclosed that a total of 276 girls were abducted by members of the Boko Haram Sect, said 57 of the girls escaped while 219 were still unaccounted for.

President Jonathan had set up the fact finding committee on May 2 to gather information surrounding the abduction and to ascertain the exact number of students abducted amongst other terms of references.

52 Killed as Nigerian Troop and Boko Haram Clash

The Troops of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and suspected gunmen of the Boko Haram sect in over two dozens of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles, clashed Friday morning at the Mainok Village Market in Borno State, resulting in the death 52 terror suspects and nine traders attempting to flee the crossfire that lasted for over half an hour.

Mainok is a farming community 60 kilometres west of Maiduguri, the state capital.

According to military sources in Maiduguri who spoke with Guardian news, the gunmen planned to attack the village, which holds its weekly market on Fridays, to “terrorise and extort money and food items from the traders.”

A former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has commenced efforts to reach out to the extremist Boko Haram sect, in a series of attempts at negotiating with the sect to free over 250 school girls it abducted more than a month ago from Chibok, in Borno State. A source close to the former leader said on Tuesday that Mr. Obasanjo has contacted a go-between, who assisted him in his unsuccessful attempt at mediating with the Boko Haram group in 2011.

The go-between, a lawyer, was led by a prominent civil rights activist, Shehu Sani, to meet with Mr. Obasanjo weekend in his Otta farm in an “exploratory” effort, our source said. Mr. Obasanjo’s 2011 attempt at negotiations with the deadly sect ended on a bloody note with the murder of Babakura Fugu, the man who received him and made effort to establish a link between Boko Haram and the former president.

Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, who is the Chairman of Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), has urged Nigerians to stop tying the increase in the activities of the Boko Haram sect to people not wanting President Goodluck Jonathan in power.

Aliyu, who is also the governor of Niger State, added that the activities of the sect started long before the President came into power. According to him, Nigerians need to bury this conspiracy theory making rounds, and focus on crushing the activities of the sect totally.

3 Boko Haram Gunmen Arrested In Neighboring Niger after patrol ambushed

Three suspected members of the Islamist militants, Boko Haram sect have been arrested in neighboring Niger on Tuesday after they attacked an army patrol in the eastern region of Diffa, government and military sources said. Diffa, some 1,400 km east of Niger's capital Niamey, borders the Nigerian state of Borno, the epicenter of Boko Haram's uprising. The arid region has received tens of thousands of refugees from the fighting and local Niger officials have repeatedly voiced concerns over Boko Haram infiltration.

"An army patrol fell into a trap set by Boko Haram militants at Rouda, in the Chetimari commune of Diffa," a government source told Reuters. "The fighting lasted about an hour and the arrival of army reinforcements allowed us to take three prisoners, one of whom was wounded."

Gunshots and teargas canisters were fired by the officers in an attempt to break the protest but the protesters stood their ground.

Alaafin Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Blames Jonathan’s Political Foes For Boko Haram Attacks

ALAAFIN of Oyo, Oba Lamidi   Adeyemi, has flayed the activities of the Boko Haram sect, saying that the group is being sponsored by enemies of President Goodluck Jonathan to achieve political goals.

The Alafin in a letter of sympathy to the president following the Nyanya, Abuja bomb blast, said the group’s alleged links to Islam was unfounded as he said that Boko Haram’s activities were against the injunctions of the religion.
In the letter dated April 16, 2014, the monarch urged the president to seek international cooperation from neighbouring countries towards stemming the activities of the insurgents.

He said: “With the influx of mercenary fighters, grenades and rocket launchers, the Boko Haram’s senseless and unreasonable warfare has taken an international dimension and the time is ripe now for Your Excellency to seek for support and cooperation of the international communities, most especially our neighbours, Cameroon, Niger Republic and Chad Republic, to put an end to this threat on the Sovereignty and Security of Nigeria.”

The Department of State Security (DSS) who got the shock of their lives today when the dreaded Boko Haram sect paid them a visit are still at shock how the group were able to penetrate the impregnable defence of the SSS Headquarters.

In a move to cover up their security inefficiency, the SSS has resorted to issue out statement which sources who witnessed the attack described as untrue.

According to the SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, “At 0715 hours, the Service suspect handler went to the detention facility within the Headquarters to feed the suspects. One of the suspects attempted to disarm him by hitting him at the back of his head with his handcuff. His attempt to escape drew the attention of other guards at the facility who fired some shots to warn and deter others.

“The gun shots attracted the attention of the military with whom we have an understanding of mutual assistance in the event of any threat. The Army immediately deployed a team to reinforce our perimeter guards to forestall any external collaborators. The situation has since been brought under control.”

Islamist Boko Haram Kill Four, Torch Houses In Borno State Village

A group of 30 suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Borno State attacked Azir village in Damboa council area of Borno State early hour of  Saturday. Four residents were murdered, while seven sustained injuries.

Borno  state - Azir village is a community of farmers and herdsmen, located about 107 km South of Maiduguri, the state capital. Boko Haram attackers, armed with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and petrol bombs, also torched several houses and shops before fleeing into the Sambisa forest, East of the village.

Nigerian Troops Capture Boko Haram Leader In Borno, 70 Other Terrorists Killed

The Nigerian troops on Thursday, March 20, 2014, captured a top leader of the Boko Haram sect  in Gwoza Hills, Borno State. According to reports, the leader was arrested on Thursday evening while he was trying to flee the bombarded Gwoza Hills with a black Toyota Land Cruiser sports utility vehicle in his escort.

70 other terrorists were were killed in the operation.

Islamist sects Boko Haram writes Army, threatens to attack Maiduguri barracks

The members of the Boko Haram Sect have written to the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army threatening to attack Maimalari Barracks on Friday (today). Investigations revealed that security had been beefed up in the Maimalari Barracks which has the Headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division of the Artillery Corps, the Ordinance, the Signal and other crucial units of the Army in Maiduguri.

It was gathered that while security agents saw the letter as a ploy to instill fear into security operatives, all efforts were being made to ward off any attack on the foremost military formation in the North-East.  A source said that the insurgents might have compelled one of the drivers to get the letter to the military of their plan to attack the barracks.

Explosion rocks central Maiduguri, many killed

PREMIUM TIMES – Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, has come under attack from insurgents believed to be members of the extremist Boko Haram sect, residents have told PREMIUM TIMES.

Two thunderous explosions, suspected to be from detonated bombs, were heard in the city at about 6:15 p.m.

The blast occurred at an area called Ngomari area of the capital.
Several person have been killed by bomb planted in a pickup van carrying firewood by suspected Boko Haram sect militants.

According to the report, the huge explosion which occurred around 6 pm Nigerian time in a densely populated Bintu-Suga area along Airport road in Gomari neighborhood killed and injured unspecified number of people according to security agencies evacuating bodies of the dead and injured in the area.

Yahaya Adamu, a mechanic living in the area, told PREMIUM TIMES on telephone that “There is heavy dust and smoke everywhere now, and I am running home now to see if my family are safe”.

It cannot be ascertained immediately if the blast was targeted at civilians.

No one could also say if there are casualties yet. The spokesperson of the state police command, Gideon Jubril, could not be reached to comment for this story. His telephone was switched off when our reporter called.

PREMIUM TIMES reporter however observed that the blasts have triggered panic in the city with residents seen rushing to their respective homes for safety.

The Boko Haram sect has in the past months intensified attacks on the northeast states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, which are under emergency rule

It has been attacking security and military installations, including barracks and airbases at will. It has also been pummeling schools, towns and villages unchallenged and ransacking highways.

This week, it slaughtered more than 29 pupils at a government boarding school in Yobe.

As the litany of atrocities lengthened, President Goodluck Jonathan claimed the Nigerian government is winning the war against the insurgency.

Borno State: 18 Killed in Alau Ngawo Fate Village

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have killed 18 people in an attack on Alau Ngawo Fate village in Jere local government area of Borno state. The Chief of Alau Ngawo village, Bulama Ibrahim said he counted 18 bodies after the shooting adding that most of those who survived the attack have fled the village.

The spokesman for Nigerian Army, 7 Division, Mohammed Dole and Borno state Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko who confirmed the incident, stated that they were yet to get detailed information on the number of casualties. A former local councilor, Mustapha Galtimare, who was on the scene after the attack, concurred with the numbers of dead.

“They had been in the village for nearly two hours without any security personnel coming to the aid of the villagers,” Ibrahim said. Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the northeast last May and ordered in extra troops and air strikes on Islamist bases.

On December 2 Boko Haram gunmen stormed the Air Force Base and military barracks around the airport of the northeastern city of Maiduguri. 

The group was also blamed for a car bomb in the city this week that killed 29 people.
