FG DELEGATION VISITS LIBERATED COMMUNITIES NOW IN IDP CAMP IN BAMA

*TEAM SENT FROM PRESIDENCY TO ASSESS CURRENT SITUATION OF RESCUED PERSONS AMID CONCERNS ABOUT MALNUTRITION

*NUTRITIONAL EMERGENCY DECLARED IN BORNO STATE

Determined to bring relief to recently rescued Boko Haram captives and to ensure their well-being in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the Northeast, the Federal Government has conducted an on-the spot assessment at the camp in Bama .

At the visit, the delegation led by the Presidential Special Adviser on Social Investments, Mrs. Maryam Uwais restated government's firm commitment to bringing relief to the thousands of recently rescued Boko Haram captives currently hosted in the IDP camp in Bama, Borno State.

“We're here to see for ourselves the situation on the ground here,” she said.

The delegation, which included senior officials of the Borno State Government, officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, the State Emergency Management Agency, and representatives from the United Nations, was taken around the camp, home to 25,000 adults and children, by the Brigade Commander of the 21 Armoured Brigade, Bama, Colonel Adamu Garba Laka.

Rescued Boko Haram Victims: 61 Infants Hospitalized And 478 Malnourished Kids For Special Care

Sixty one critically malnourished infants have been hospitalized on the orders of Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima after he relocated 478 children and 219 adults, all of them malnurished due to two years captivity in the hands of Boko Haram insurgents before they were rescued by the Nigerian Military. 

The victims were moved from Bama to a special care unit in Maiduguri on Monday. Dozens of buses brought conveyed them to a newly opened special care unit in Maiduguri.

The 61 infants now hospitalized at Umaru Shehu Specialist Hospital, owned by the State Government in Maiduguri, are undergoing medical care arising from extreme deprivation of food. They were ‎part of the 478 children moved from Bama alongside 219 adults also malnurished. The adults consist of 196 women, some of whom gave birth to part of the 478 children. The rest of the adults are 23 men, looking thin.

War Against Insurgency: UPDATE ON OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE - GWOZA RETURNED HOME IN 26 VEHICLES

As you are aware, Nigerian troops in the north eastern part of the country under the auspices of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have been working round the clock to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in their hideouts. Said the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman in his latest statement released to the public today. Consequently, various formations and units have embarked on clearance operations that ranged from outright offensive operations, to raids, cordon and search operations and patrols.

He added: You may recall that a soldier was wounded during an offensive operation by 21 Brigade yesterday, we regret to inform you that he died this morning. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

The 22 Brigade on its part, has conducted clearance operations in which it cleared 4 towns and villages of Boko Haram terrorists. In the process, they killed 3 Boko Haram terrorists, while 9 of them that hid in a fox holes and dug outs were found out and captured. The troops also recovered weapons and rescued 400 persons held hostages by the terrorists. This is in addition to the recovery and handing over of 300 cows rustled by the terrorists.

Breaking: ACTING GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 7 DIVISION ESCAPE AMBUSH IN BORNO STATE

The leading elements of the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu’s leading convoy was about 8.30am this morning ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists enroute to visit troops in Bama.

Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations who confirmed the ambush sais "although 1 soldier loss his live and 2 others were injured, they were able to clear the ambush, killing some of the terrorists and recovered vehicle and weapons from them. The recovered items include a Toyota Hilux vehicle, 2 AK-47 rifles and several ammunitions."

The girls in Gwoza who were raped by militants do not care where the help comes from as far as they will eventually be able to move about freely without fear of being kidnapped and used as sex slaves. The mothers in Bama whose sons were slaughtered before their eyes do not worry whether Boko Haram is defeated by a Christian or Muslim coalition. The hundreds of thousands in IDP camps are concerned simply about when they can safely return to their homes and resume their normal lives. For these ones most hard hit by the Boko Haram terrorists, whether the help they so desperately need comes from the United States of America or from Saudi Arabia does not matter.

Breaking: Nigeria military Alpha Jet (NAF 466) bombing Boko Haram missing

An Alpha Jet (NAF 466) belonging to the Nigerian Air Force and involved in the counter insurgency operation against the extremist Boko Haram sect has gone missing around Adamawa State.


The spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, Chris Olukolade, a Major general, said the aircraft, with two pilots onboard, went missing on Friday. In a statement early Sunday, Mr. Olukolade said the aircraft “left Yola at about 10:45a.m on 12 September 2014 on a routine operational mission and was expected back by 12:00 noon”.


“Since then, all efforts to establish contact with the aircraft have not yielded any positive result,” the statement said. Mr. Olukolade said search and rescue effort had since commenced “to establish contact with the crew”.

Islamist terrorists shot at FG panel members in Borno –Akinyemi

A member of the Presidential Committee on the abducted Chibok schoolgirls, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, on Tuesday narrated how members of the committee were attacked by Boko Haram members in Bama, Borno State.

Akinyemi, who is also the deputy chairman of the National Conference, disclosed this while advising delegates to be cautious in their reactions to the explosion that rocked Kano School of Hygiene on Monday.

“We were attacked in Bama by Boko Haram and it took over 30 minutes of heavy fighting between the sect and the armed forces before we were rescued and taken away,” he said.

Mid-Night Battle: Borno villagers foil Boko Haram attack, kill 200 insurgents, arrest 10

The residents of Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area in north eastern part of Borno State  fought off invading Boko Haram gunmen in an early morning attack, killing at least 200 sect members with about 10 also caught alive, officials and locals from the area said

The insurgents had repeatedly attempted to attack Kalabalge, an agro-nomad community near the Cameroon borders, but failed to gain entry into the village on each attempt. Sources said the insurgents, numbering over 300 stormed Rann and adjoining villages around 4 am today but met resistance from the people who had knowledge of the impending attack

Army Commanders, Boko Haram Working Together in Parts of Nigeria?

VOA  - A Nigerian soldier says he has witnessed incidents that suggest some Nigerian military commanders are working with Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group blamed for thousands of deaths since 2009.

In an exclusive interview with VOA's Hausa service, he described how his military unit, based in the northeastern Borno State region, was ambushed by Boko Haram fighters.

The soldier, who did not want to be identified, said the commander of a nearby military unit, based in the town of Bama, recently sought assistance from his unit in carrying out a raid.

The soldier said when the two military units joined up, they were given different uniforms. The Bama unit commander gave his own troops green uniforms. The soldier said his unit received tan "desert camouflage" uniforms.

Boko Haram camps: Army Destroyed Gulf Cars With IEDs In Borno State

Nigeria Troops in Borno state have destroyed several gulf cars that were laden with Improvised Explosive Devices by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

Investigation revealed that the insurgents wired the IEDS to the gulf cars known as the operational vehicle of choice to the insurgents, while fleeing camps that came under bombardment from troops of the Nigerian Army and air Force fighter jets in Bama, sambisa and other areas of Borno State.

18 Boko Haram terrorists as troops capture more weapons – DHQ

The Nigeria military on Monday in Abuja said that it killed 18 suspected terrorists while troops captured more weapons and aborted attacks in the outskirts of Bama and Ngurosoye in Borno. This is contained in a statement signed by Major General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information, in Abuja.

Mr. Olukolade, who is also the Coordinator, Joint Information Centre Counter Terrorism Campaign, said the terrorists were killed during military patrol at the weekend in the area. He said the troops dislodged some terrorists who were about to attack some settlements and in the encounter, 16 burnt AK 47 rifles were found in the debris.

Security officials say Boko Haram was behind bombing of a crowded market in Borno state that killed at least 20 people. The Islamist Boko Haram fighters have detonated a bomb in a crowded marketplace in northeastern Nigeria killing at least 20 people, witnesses said.

security officials said the attack late on Saturday in the town of Bama in Borno state bore the hallmarks of an attack by the al-Qaeda-linked group, which is fighting to carve an Islamic state out of northeast Nigeria.

Security sources say Boko Haram has killed hundreds, possibly thousands, this year in a campaign of violence that is growing in intensity, according to the Reuters news agency.

Nigerian Troops Capture Boko Haram Leader In Borno, 70 Other Terrorists Killed

The Nigerian troops on Thursday, March 20, 2014, captured a top leader of the Boko Haram sect  in Gwoza Hills, Borno State. According to reports, the leader was arrested on Thursday evening while he was trying to flee the bombarded Gwoza Hills with a black Toyota Land Cruiser sports utility vehicle in his escort.

70 other terrorists were were killed in the operation.

Boko Haram:Hundreds flee north Nigeria town fearing attack

Residents of a northeast Nigerian town said Saturday hundreds of them have fled their homes for fear of attacks by Boko Haram militants who killed 43 people this week in a nearby village.

About 400 men fled Bama on Friday to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, 35 kilometres away following warnings from residents of Gombale village, where Boko Haram Islamists gathered for a planned attack on Bama, Usman Adam, one of the fleeing residents said.

"All able-bodied men, around 400 in all, have fled to Maiduguri after we received warning from Gombale residents across the river that Boko Haram were converging in the town for an impending attack on Bama," Adam told AFP.

3 killed, 4 injured in Gwoza, as vigilante arrests six Boko Haram suspects in Maiduguri

Six suspected members of the Boko Haram were on Wednesday arrested by the Vigilante Youths Group at a petrol station while buying fuel for the sect’s operations in the Sambisa Forest. Another three suspects were arrested by the vigilante youths on the Maiduguri-Biu road, while attempting to sneak into Maiduguri metropolis to buy food items and fuel.

According to a vigilante youth, Yakubu Isa, the terror suspects came in two pickup vehicles with empty drums to buy fuel at one of the petrol stations on Bama road.

“I took courage to mobilize some of our members to the petrol station, because the three suspects were in military uniform taking fuel at the station, but the soldiers patrolling this road do not refuel their vehicles at any of the petrol stations, but at a single designated point in the Government Reservation Area (GRA).

“When we confronted them, one of them said that the fuel is for their generating sets. When their explanations were not convincing to us, I alerted the soldiers in that sector, and we handed them over for further investigation”.

On how the other three suspects were arrested, he said: “they sneaked into Maiduguri last night to replenish their food items and fuel at a shop on Damboa road. They used two vehicles, before we intercepted and arrested them on this road. With these evidences we found on these insurgents, we handed them to soldiers for further investigation”.

A military officer attached to one of the Joint Task Force (JTF) sectors in Maiduguri, who spoke in confidence, confirmed the incident.

Prior to the arrests, gunmen suspected to be members of the sect attacked the border village of Wala in Gwoza council area of Borno State, killing three residents.

Four villagers were also injured in the attack which also led to the setting ablaze of houses and shops.

Confirming the incident, the former council chairman, Dr Ibrahim Bulama said the insurgents came on two motorcycles from the Sambisa Forest, before attacking the village in the early hours of Monday.

He said other property destroyed in last Monday’s attacks included five houses and three shops, located on the Maidugri-Gwoza road, adding that with the arrival of soldiers to the village on Tuesday, the villagers are going on with their daily activities.
