MILITARY DEBUNKS AMNESTY REPORT THAT GIWA BARRACKS IS 'A PLACE OF DEATH'

The Nigerian military has completely disassociated itself from the report of Amnesty International which claims that some civilians died in a detention cell at Giwa Barracks. 

The accusation comes as surprise and shock because the organisation has accessed the facilities and made recommendations which were implemented.

According to the Acting Director, Defence Information,  Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, it is rather unfortunate that an organization of higher repute such as Amnesty International could come around to release a report which is completely baseless, unfounded and source-less with the intent of denting the image of the Nigerian Armed Forces. We would remain committed to the task we have started against the Boko Haram terrorists until they are annihilated.

Operation to recover the Chibok girls is alive and ongoing

The Nigerian Military says operation to recover the Chibok girls is alive and still ongoing but added that it will not be in a hurry to rescue the secondary schoolgirls in Chibok who were abducted in April 2014.

The Acting Director, Defence Information, Military Headquarters, Abuja, Col. Rabe Abubakar, who said this at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, noted that while it was of utmost concern to the military to rescue the girls, the operation required demanded adequate patience and planning.

Col. Rabe Abubakar added that recent efforts by the military in the rescue of over 200 women and children held captive by Boko Haram proved that the military was on course in recovering the girls.

He said, “The issue of the low morale of the Nigerian military men has now become a thing of the past. The operation to recover the Chibok girls is alive and still ongoing. We have continued to make rescue efforts, and we will do all within our powers to bring the girls.

Soldiers invade newspaper distribution centre in Kwara

Another detachment of gun-wielding soldiers from the Sobi Cantonment on Saturday stormed the popular Oniyangi newspaper distribution centre, along Emir’s road in Ilorin, to stop the circulation of The Nation newspapers in Kwara state.

It was gathered that some soldiers had early hours of Saturday impounded the van conveying copies of the newspaper to the state in Ogere, Ogun state, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Armed soldier had also of Friday stormed the same centre looking for some newspapers they claimed they had orders ‘from above’ to seize

The operation also extended to other parts of the metropolis as nearly all the distribution vans conveying Saturday’s edition of several newspapers were stopped at Eiyenkorin area or on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho expressway. The drivers of the vans were detained and their phones seized.

The Nigeria Defence Headquarters yesterday announced the discovery of a deadly rocket launcher production facility in Dorayi District in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major-Gen. Chris Olukolade in Abuja. “The discovery follows the arrest of a prominent member of the terrorist group,” the statement said.

“Locally made anti-aircraft gun and mortar accessories, as well as rocket propelled grenade tubes and launcher along with accessories were recovered.

#BringBackOurGirls: Negotiator to broker deal between federal government and Boko Haram

A hostage negotiator has moved to broker a deal between the government and Boko Haram for the safe release of the more than 200 girls abducted by insurgents from their hostel in Chibok, Borno State.


A United Kingdom -based television stationChannels 4 News which disclosed this on Tuesday did not say if the negotiator is acting on his own or on behalf of the federal or Borno State Government.


Although the station quoted him as saying that the girls’ release was “within reach,” he also warned that their fate rested on a knife-edge because of the fear by the insurgents that the military might try to forcibly free them.


“The girls, we believe, are alive but they have been moved from the location to which they were originally taken,” he said. “It would not be hard to engineer a deal.


It looks like they want to release them.

Heightened Tension in Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Niger Following the Nasarawa 20

Following the aftermath of the Thursday massacre of the Fulani Herdsmen in Nasarawa state, heightened tensions has griped the surrounding states of Benue, Plateau, Kaduna and Niger.

The alleged killing of at least twenty Fulani herdsmen at a funeral in a settlement near Keana, Nasarawa State, has caused panic in the state and neighbouring states.

The reports has it that 20 people were killed by the soldiers that invaded the Islamic funeral rite but that the death toll rose to 25 as at yesterday after six more victims died following the wounds sustained in the attack. It was gathered that the six additional victims died in hospitals in Keana and Lafia .

Secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Sale Bayari, confirmed that 18 of the dead Fulani victims have been buried at a settlement along Giza road, Gidan Ardo Sodangi axis in the Keana Local Government Area of the state.

Nigeria Troops arrest 31 fleeing Boko Haram fighters attempting t cross fromTaraba and Adamawa into Cameroun

The Special Forces of the multinational Army have arrested 31 Boko Haram fighters who were attempting to flee the country through Taraba and Adamawa in to Cameroun.

This group of Boko Haram terrorists attempting to escape into Cameroon through Taraba and Gumti in Adamawa State have come under heavy fire from troops on patrol of the area in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.

Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, said on Thursday that one of those arrested was a mercenary claiming to be a citizen Chad and Burkina Faso.

Boko Haram camps: Army Destroyed Gulf Cars With IEDs In Borno State

Nigeria Troops in Borno state have destroyed several gulf cars that were laden with Improvised Explosive Devices by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East.

Investigation revealed that the insurgents wired the IEDS to the gulf cars known as the operational vehicle of choice to the insurgents, while fleeing camps that came under bombardment from troops of the Nigerian Army and air Force fighter jets in Bama, sambisa and other areas of Borno State.

With the reports that the ongoing military campaign against the Boko Haram insurgents have recorded what security sources described as one of the greatest breakthroughs in the  campaign against Boko Haram terrorists  in the North-East.

That the Special Forces, comprising ground troops and the Air Force fighters, had demobilized one of the strongest fortresses of the Boko Haram sect.

Army sources said that the camp was well planned with boreholes, dispensary and other facilities to aid the operations of the insurgents.
