Peter Oshun writes an "OPEN LETTER TO THE FIRST LADY"

Dear Madam:

It grieves me to pound out a letter to your good self in circumstances such as these, on the subject on which I feel compelled to address myself to you in the paragraphs below, because they are matters which as the oyinbo would say, really should go without saying. My grief aside, I also am conscious of the impertinence on my part, certainly a slight sense of incongruity, as with the young Obi Okonkwo in Chinua Achebe’s No Longer at Ease when he won public disgrace and reduced his primary school headmaster to tears by writing a letter to Adolf Hitler, no less, at the height of World War 2. You are no Adolf Hitler, madam, but neither am I a precocious prepubescent colonial pupil unmindful of the treasonous implications of giving aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime. I am a Nigerian citizen concerned about the welfare of my own sovereign state, and you madam, far from being in a legal state of war with Nigeria, are the wife of its elected president. By some bizarre twist of circumstances you could well be the most important person in Nigeria today, certainly the most important person in government, by virtue or in spite of your constitutionally indeterminate position as First lady, with all the arrogated powers appurtenant.

#BringBackOurGirls: Negotiator to broker deal between federal government and Boko Haram

A hostage negotiator has moved to broker a deal between the government and Boko Haram for the safe release of the more than 200 girls abducted by insurgents from their hostel in Chibok, Borno State.

A United Kingdom -based television stationChannels 4 News which disclosed this on Tuesday did not say if the negotiator is acting on his own or on behalf of the federal or Borno State Government.

Although the station quoted him as saying that the girls’ release was “within reach,” he also warned that their fate rested on a knife-edge because of the fear by the insurgents that the military might try to forcibly free them.

“The girls, we believe, are alive but they have been moved from the location to which they were originally taken,” he said. “It would not be hard to engineer a deal.

It looks like they want to release them.

Ateke Tom, Ex-Niger Delta militant to contest 2015 governorship election in Rivers state

Governorship campaign posters of ex-Niger Delta militant, Ateke Tom has flooded major roads and streets in Port Harcourt. Tom, who hails from Okrika Local Government, hometown of Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has become the second obvious candidate aiming for the Brick House in Port Harcourt after the numerous endorsement of Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike by PDP stakeholders in the state.

The posters, which were seen around Aba Road, Garrison Bus Stop, CFC, Artillary and the ever busy Rumuola Junction has the picture of the ex-Militant with the inscription: “For 2015 Governor Rivers State, Vote Chief Comr. Ateke Tom”. Though the posters do not bear the name or logo of any political party, sources hinted that he would be running under the PDP.
