Re-run election in Rivers State: INEC denies wild allegations

The general public is here advised to disregard an unsubstantiated allegation made by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and which appeared in some newspapers today, that INEC has "handed over original copies of result sheets (of the Dec 10 Re-run election in Rivers State) to Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Ameachi."
The Commission hereby affirms that the allegation is baseless and totally untrue. The Commission also wishes to assures Nigerians that it will continue to discharge its duties according to the rules governing its mandate, without fear or favour and with a very high sense of responsibility.

Rivers Saga: Supreme Court Dismisses Wike’s Appeal

The Nigeria's Apex Court (Supreme Court) on Tuesday, threw out the bid by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, challenging the territorial jurisdiction of the election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Wike had appealed a decision of the Court of Appeal which earlier held that the tribunal's location was in order.

According to the Supreme Court, the President of the Court of Appeal acted in line with the ‎law and described Wike's petition as being against the law..

Fresh Facts: Borno Governor caused kidnap of Chibok schoolgirls – WAEC

According to WAEC, the kidnap of over 250 schoolgirls in Chibok may not have occurred if the Borno State Government had heeded the advice of an examination body, fresh facts have emerged.

Aware of the poor security situation in Borno and worried about the safety of students, the West African Examination Council, WAEC, declined to conduct its Senior School Certificate Examination in unsafe parts of Borno, including Chibok.

But that was until the state governor, Kashim Shettima, assured of adequate security measures, an official has said.

The head of WAEC’s National Office in Nigeria, Charles Eguridu, stated this on Friday night in Abuja while answering questions from several women including First Lady Patience Jonathan, wives of state governors, female legislators at federal and state levels, and leaders of various women organizations.

UPDATE: ASUP, COEASU Plans Protest On Tuesday In Abuja

There appears to be no end in sight for students of polytechnics and colleges of education to return to school as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) announced plans to embark on a peaceful protest in Abuja on Tuesday.

At a joint news conference in Abuja on Sunday, the National President of the ASUP, Dr Chibuzor Asomugha and the Abuja chapter chairman of COEASU, Dr Ahymed Lawal, criticised the Federal Government’s refusal to implement agreements reached with the unions in order to suspend the indefinite strike.

Ateke Tom, Ex-Niger Delta militant to contest 2015 governorship election in Rivers state

Governorship campaign posters of ex-Niger Delta militant, Ateke Tom has flooded major roads and streets in Port Harcourt. Tom, who hails from Okrika Local Government, hometown of Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has become the second obvious candidate aiming for the Brick House in Port Harcourt after the numerous endorsement of Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike by PDP stakeholders in the state.

The posters, which were seen around Aba Road, Garrison Bus Stop, CFC, Artillary and the ever busy Rumuola Junction has the picture of the ex-Militant with the inscription: “For 2015 Governor Rivers State, Vote Chief Comr. Ateke Tom”. Though the posters do not bear the name or logo of any political party, sources hinted that he would be running under the PDP.
