The spokesman said they were informed some Boko Haram leaders were having meeting at Rann so the Airforce were instructed to "go and address the problem" which simply meant go and bomb the area.

Well they killed innocents including members of  NGO who were there to immunize children and they said it was a mistake and soulless Buharists are dismissing this military high handedness as "it was a mistake, everyone makes mistakes".

These are people who criticize the police for accidental discahrge.

Pope to lead Israeli-Palestinian peace prayer

The origin of Boko Harram

In 1995, the group was said to be operating under the name Shabaab, Muslim Youth Organization with Mallam Lawal as the leader. Members were taught and encouraged to deepen their knowledge in Islam and become devout Muslims. When Lawal left to continue his education, Mohammed Yusuf took over leadership of the group. Yusuf’s leadership allegedly opened the group to political influence and popularity. The group was originally established at Ibn Taymiyyah mosque, which was named after Boko Haram's spiritual head.

Yusuf officially founded the group in 2002 in the city of Maiduguri with the aim of establishing a Shari'a government in Borno State under then-Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. He established a religious complex that included a mosque and a school where many poor families from across Nigeria and from neighboring countries enrolled their children. He started wooing the poor and feeble with his philanthropy and began to teach inciting sermons.

“This menace has to be internationalised; every country has to be involved in finding solutions to the problem. It is not a Nigerian problem but the problem of the whole world. From the activities of the group and the response of the government since this madness started, it is clear that this government cannot handle this problem alone,” he said.

Soyinka accused both the past and the present governments in the country of living in self denial, by believing that they could negotiate or “appeal” to “murderers and killers” to stop their activities.

The Boko Haram jihadis who kidnapped more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls two weeks ago say they are “willing to consider” the release of those who have not already been trafficked abroad and sold into marriage.

The girls’ abductors, who have been in regular direct contact with a government intermediary, also report that three of their teenaged captives have died – although they did not state how this happened. Eighteen others, they say, are now sick.

The intermediary told Channel 4 News that the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Boko Haram, has threatened to kill the remaining hostages if there is any attempt by the Nigerian military to rescue the girls. Meanwhile in the capital Abuja, the Nigerian government is coming under intense public pressure to secure the girls’ release.

On Wednesday, the government admitted for the first time that it had officially engaged the services of the negotiator. It declined to reveal his identity. He has told Channel 4 News that he wishes to remain anonymous for reasons of personal security.

A hostage negotiator has moved to broker a deal between the government and Boko Haram for the safe release of the more than 200 girls abducted by insurgents from their hostel in Chibok, Borno State.


A United Kingdom -based television stationChannels 4 News which disclosed this on Tuesday did not say if the negotiator is acting on his own or on behalf of the federal or Borno State Government.


Although the station quoted him as saying that the girls’ release was “within reach,” he also warned that their fate rested on a knife-edge because of the fear by the insurgents that the military might try to forcibly free them.


“The girls, we believe, are alive but they have been moved from the location to which they were originally taken,” he said. “It would not be hard to engineer a deal.


It looks like they want to release them.

TERRORISTS: THE PAMPERED CHILDREN OF THE NORTH NIGERIA

Nigeria is presently in a dangerous impasse and there are many who believe that the country is on the throes of disintegration. If the mindless insurgency and bloodletting ravaging particularly the Northern part of the country is not enough evidence, the ongoing national conference is a clear indication that all is not well. The primary question is how Nigeria got to this dreadful position – to a point where it is safer to live in Afghanistan, Iraq or Somalia. Thanks to a new phenomenon called Boko Haram. Then we ask again, who or what is Boko Haram? I can only at this point say that it is a faceless organisation that we are unsure who they really are except that they are predominantly people drawn from the Northern part of Nigeria, with a clear proclivity towards Islamic fundamentalism and a violent disapproval of mainstream Nigerian, albeit western values. We could also say a sort of rebels without cause.


There is nothing really surprising about the emergence of Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria. Many commentators saw it coming and many were condemned for ever predicting that Nigeria will come to such a state. Hence today the Nigerian press is full of comments such as: ‘serves the North right’; ‘they should have seen it coming’; ‘they brought it on themselves’ etc. It is not that such commentators are not appalled by the wanton killing of innocent women and children or grieve over the senseless killing of now mostly Northern Nigerian youths who could easily have become tomorrow’s doctors, lawyers, teachers and footballers. But many Nigerians have grown up to believe that the North somehow does not disapprove of senseless killing of innocent lives and we have strong reasons stretching over many decades to assume so. The only surprise is that those who should have anticipated it are the very ones expressing surprise and blaming others for the pitiable state of particularly Northern Nigeria and the country generally. Some supposedly knowledgeable Northern opinions have gone as far as accusing the federal government of President Jonathan of masterminding the ongoing killings in the north. But let us put Boko Haram and the problem of the North in its true perspective.

A recent front page banner headline of a major national newspaper titled, “APC Inches Towards a Buhari – Tinubu Presidential Ticket”, elicited comments not surprisingly from a few disgruntled elite. The crux of their argument was that in a multi-religious country like Nigeria, to present two persons from the same religious group for the office of the president and his vice was unacceptable. Thanks to Karl Marx, we have always known that if you want to deceive the people tell them about religion. But the level of frustration in Nigeria has risen so high that the masses can no longer be deceived by politicians.

Alaafin Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Blames Jonathan’s Political Foes For Boko Haram Attacks

ALAAFIN of Oyo, Oba Lamidi   Adeyemi, has flayed the activities of the Boko Haram sect, saying that the group is being sponsored by enemies of President Goodluck Jonathan to achieve political goals.

The Alafin in a letter of sympathy to the president following the Nyanya, Abuja bomb blast, said the group’s alleged links to Islam was unfounded as he said that Boko Haram’s activities were against the injunctions of the religion.
In the letter dated April 16, 2014, the monarch urged the president to seek international cooperation from neighbouring countries towards stemming the activities of the insurgents.

He said: “With the influx of mercenary fighters, grenades and rocket launchers, the Boko Haram’s senseless and unreasonable warfare has taken an international dimension and the time is ripe now for Your Excellency to seek for support and cooperation of the international communities, most especially our neighbours, Cameroon, Niger Republic and Chad Republic, to put an end to this threat on the Sovereignty and Security of Nigeria.”

Misinterpretations of Qu'ran is the Genesis of Boko Haram in Nigeria - Borno Governor

Governo of  Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, said misinterpretations of the Islam Holy Qur’an was responsible for the emergence of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgent in the country.

Shettima, who strongly condemned the activities of the Boko Haram group, saying their violent campaigns, which have claimed the lives of innocent persons and led to the destruction of properties, lacked place in Islam.

Borno Governor, in his remarks while receiving winners and officials of the Board for Qur’anic Education, who represented the state in the 2004 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Dutse, Jigawa State, said  the Islamist insurgents made negative interpretation of the Holy Qur’an and Islam, which they wrongly used to unleash terror on the citizens, reaffirming it that Islam is a religion of peace, which does not condone killings and destruction under whatever form.

According to him,“Distorted translation of the holy book by the insurgents landed us in this mess, if we have had good understanding of Islam we would have been in a better place. There is no room for extremism in Islam. We need to go back to Islam as practised by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), when Islam encouraged Muslims, Jews and Christians to leave in peace with one another.”

“We are presently in a day where some lunatics claiming to be crusaders of Islam are killing innocent people, burning mosques and Churches. It is bad interpretation of the holy book by the insurgents that caused all this”, he added.


Governor Shettima congratulated the participants for the successes recorded in the competition, tasking them to maintain the tempo as he donated the sum of N10 million to both the participants and the officials.

Blasphemous statements: Youth burn two churches in Katsina State

Following an alleged blasphemous statements made by a corps member, protesting youths in Kastina state burned down two churches.

The rampaging youths set fire on two churches on Monday afternoon at Tudun Wada, Funtua Local Government Area on Katsina State.

Premium Times reports that the unrest started when some students at one Ideal School, a private secondary school in the community, reported to youth outside the school that a teacher was teaching an SS2 class lessons that were ‘blasphemous’ in Islam. According to a witness, who simply identified himself as “Alhaji Surajo,” the angry youth took to the streets of Funtua, vandalising property and ended up attacking two churches.

“I was around Tudun Wada, near the school, when we heard youth coming to the area, saying that they wanted to burn it (the school) down,” Mr. Surajo.
