Buhari and Conspiracy Theories: Mahmud Jega is Right

I study Northern Nigeria for a living. I am a Lugardian Northerner. I grew up in and schooled in Northern Nigeria. I know that conspiracy theories have a high resonance in the region. I know that implausible and sometimes ridiculous alternative explanations and alternative facts circulate in the region to devastating effect.

Conspiracy theories led to non-Muslim fellow Nigerians being killed in Kano shortly after the beginning of the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. The ignorant interpretation of cosmic and climatic events as recompense for sin by some Muslim clerics led to Christians being attacked in Maiduguri when there was a solar eclipse--years before Boko Haram emerged.

THE PARABLE OF THE WEDDING CLOTHES

BACKGROUND
In this parable, the King’s son is to be married and the king is planning the wedding celebration. He had invited the obvious people, the great men of his kingdom, the people one would expect to be at such an occasion, but they had treated his invitation with contempt. They have proved unworthy of it. But the King cannot cancel the banquet. This is his son’s wedding; it must be celebrated; there must be guests to fill the banqueting hall. Where can worthy guests be found, guests who will not spurn but be glad to be there and really share the joy of the occasion with the King? Who will prove worthy to be a guest at the wedding banquet?

There is no doubt that Yahshua (Jesus) knew that humans may attempt to build His Church haphazardly. He therefore ensured that the Master plan for the Church should be properly released and documented. The sad reality of both the Roman and Protestant versions of Christendom is the deliberate abandonment of the master plan so clearly articulated, at great cost, in the Holy Writ which is the heart of the New Covenant. A conservative estimate of those who are ‘building churches’ even among Pentecostals and Charismatics will reveal that there is no regard by majority of what the Word says. Rather ‘churches’ are built to suit either the fancies of their ‘founders’ or the needs of their ‘target groups’. Consequently, the desire to ‘succeed’ trumps the need to obey the Head of the Church.

Let us review a few salient facts to understand how and why vessels are chosen by divine election to fulfil specific purposes.

Misinterpretations of Qu'ran is the Genesis of Boko Haram in Nigeria - Borno Governor

Governo of  Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, said misinterpretations of the Islam Holy Qur’an was responsible for the emergence of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgent in the country.

Shettima, who strongly condemned the activities of the Boko Haram group, saying their violent campaigns, which have claimed the lives of innocent persons and led to the destruction of properties, lacked place in Islam.

Borno Governor, in his remarks while receiving winners and officials of the Board for Qur’anic Education, who represented the state in the 2004 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Dutse, Jigawa State, said  the Islamist insurgents made negative interpretation of the Holy Qur’an and Islam, which they wrongly used to unleash terror on the citizens, reaffirming it that Islam is a religion of peace, which does not condone killings and destruction under whatever form.

According to him,“Distorted translation of the holy book by the insurgents landed us in this mess, if we have had good understanding of Islam we would have been in a better place. There is no room for extremism in Islam. We need to go back to Islam as practised by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), when Islam encouraged Muslims, Jews and Christians to leave in peace with one another.”

“We are presently in a day where some lunatics claiming to be crusaders of Islam are killing innocent people, burning mosques and Churches. It is bad interpretation of the holy book by the insurgents that caused all this”, he added.


Governor Shettima congratulated the participants for the successes recorded in the competition, tasking them to maintain the tempo as he donated the sum of N10 million to both the participants and the officials.
