Why Obasanjo’s Wife, Ogun First Lady, Others Join Protest of Free the Abducted School Girls in Abeokuta

Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on Monday joined hundreds of women in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital, to protest the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno State.

The protest which the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson, members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, market women and female artisans also took part in, started at about 8am at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Kuto area and from there, the women moved through IBB Boulevard and ended at the Ogun State House of Assembly complex, where the governor's wife presented their protest letter to the Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, to deliver to President Jonathan.

Abducted girls must be found, Jonathan gives Shettima marching order

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has been giving a marching order that abducted girls must be found. 

President Goodluck Jonathan gave this mandate to the governor during an all night meeting that ended in the early hours of Sunday.

The meeting had in attendance the President, Vice president, Senate President, Secretary to the Government and Service Chiefs and many others.

The meeting began at 9.00pm Saturday when President Goodluck Jonathan arrived.

Shettima arrived in company of the Borno State Commissioner of Education, the principal of the Government Secondary School, Chibok and some parents of the abducted girls.

Blasphemous statements: Youth burn two churches in Katsina State

Following an alleged blasphemous statements made by a corps member, protesting youths in Kastina state burned down two churches.

The rampaging youths set fire on two churches on Monday afternoon at Tudun Wada, Funtua Local Government Area on Katsina State.

Premium Times reports that the unrest started when some students at one Ideal School, a private secondary school in the community, reported to youth outside the school that a teacher was teaching an SS2 class lessons that were ‘blasphemous’ in Islam. According to a witness, who simply identified himself as “Alhaji Surajo,” the angry youth took to the streets of Funtua, vandalising property and ended up attacking two churches.

“I was around Tudun Wada, near the school, when we heard youth coming to the area, saying that they wanted to burn it (the school) down,” Mr. Surajo.
