The death toll from the attack on communities in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen has risen to 59, a lawmaker representing the constituency in the State House of Assembly, said on Sunday.

The herdsmen, said to number over 3000, spread across Turan council ward in Logo LGA and were moving round, destroying houses and farms between late Saturday night and early hours of Sunday.
The attack by the herdsmen reportedly left a large number of members of the community with varying degrees of injuries while several others were still reported missing and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

President Muhammadu Buhari said herdsmen accused of killing Nigerians are non-Nigerians. He told Nigerians in London on Friday that the Ak-47 carrying herdsmen streamed into Nigeria from Libya.

“Because of what happened in Libya, when Ghadaffi, during his 43 year-regime, trained some people from the Sahel militarily. When his regime was overthrown, those people were dispatched to their countries. They found themselves in the Boko Haram and others.

“It is a major regional and virtually African problem now. There is one called Al Qaeda, there is Boko Haram and so on. It is a governmental project now to trace them, disarm them, try them and discipline them.”

Irked by the incessant violent activities perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen across parts of the country, Nigerian residents in the United Kingdom, have staged a protest at the UK Westminister Parliament to condemn the killings and destructions by armed herdsmen, as well as draw the attention of global authorities to wade into the wanton killings.

 According to Mr. Chidi Ughonu, Coordinator, London Protest Against Fulani Herdsmen, the protest is coming in response to last week’s attack at Nimbo, Uzo-Uwani community in Enugu State, where six people were killed with scores wounded and properties destroyed by suspected herdsmen.

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Raid Taraba Communities, Kkill 13

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed at least 13 people in separate attacks on communities in Bali and Donga local government areas of Taraba State.

Tiv Central leader in Taraba, Chief Zaki David Gbaa, in a phone interview with Saturday Mirror disclosed that two people were killed in Bornon Kurku around Kungana area while others were killed in Anchogo and Tortondo villages of Bali Local Government Area.

Saturday Mirror also gathered that armed Fulani men on Thursday attacked and killed seven people in Igo village in Donga Local Government Area.

Police Confirm 4 Dead In Gwari/Fulani Clash In Gwagwalada

The police in Gwagwalada (FCT), Abuja, have confirmed that four people were killed and 19 others injured in a clash between Gwari farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Paiko, near Gwagwalada, on Thursday. The Divisional Police Officer in the area, Mr Patrick Daaor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that two persons died at the scene, while two others died at the hospital.

Daaor said the quick intervention of the police helped in controlling the clash.

The Chairman, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Gwagwalada, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Haruna Abubakar, also confirmed the casualties.

200 Armed bandits on motorcycles attack Jigawa police station, bank; kill 8 - Police

Group of Armed Bandits on Wednesday attacked a police station, a bank, and a Sharia Court and killed eight people, including police officers, in Gwaram Town, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa state. The Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, zone 1, Tambari Muhammed, said this when he spoke with journalists in Dutse.

Mr. Muhammed said four mobile policemen, three conventional policemen and one civilian guard were killed in the attack. According to him, about 200 attackers entered the town with motorcycles and cars at about 1 a.m.

The AIG described the situation as unfortunate in s state that had been enjoying peace for long. He said the bandits used explosives to attack the bank, police station and court.

Mr. Muhammed said that no arrest has been made but more armed police officers had been deployed to the area.

Fulani Herdsmen Targeting FCT - Army Raises The Alarm, Distress call saves community as troops continue onslaught on terrorists

The Nigerian Army  yesterday raises alarm that the herdsmen that have been attacking and killing innocent people in some states in the north are targeting the Fedral Capital Territory, Abuja, the seat of the government. 

The Military cautions the populace against identifying with them. Fulani herdsmen, who have been operating under the cover of the night, according to the military, were hired by some unscrupulous faceless people to unleash terror on the populace.

The terrorists have killed about 2, 000 innocent people in the last few weeks. Security forces have been dispatching troops to Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states at the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan. Some top officers that were sent to Benue on fact-finding mission were said to have written a damning report that showed that the herdsmen were coming into the country from the neighbouring countries to attack, kill and destroy.

The Federal Lawmakers have summoned the Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau, NSA,Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd and IGP Mohammed Abubakar over the Zamfara State killings.

The lower chamber of the Nigerian National Assembly, House of Reps, yesterday , ordered its house committee on security to invite the National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd, the Minister of Defence, General Aliyu Gusau, rtd, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to appear before the House and explain what led to last week’s massacre of Nigerians in Zamfara State.

Mass Exodus of Tiv Community begins in Taraba as herdsmen attack continues

As it seems that the Taraba state government refused to address the ongoing attacks by the Fulani herdsmen on the Tive people, the continuous herdsmen attacks has been forcing the  Tiv community to move out of the state en-mass to the neighbouring state of Benue.

 The movement has become necessary, some Tiv people opined, following the I don’t care attitudes of the Taraba state government towards setting up machineries to protect the lives and properties of the Tiv people in the state.
