Terrorism: UN Security Council To Multinational Joint Task Force - Prevent Boko Haram From Regrouping

---Calls on International Mommunity to Provide Urgent Humanitarian Assistance for the People Affected by the Crisis


The UN Security Council has tasked the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to prevent the destructive Boko Haram insurgents, recently dislodged from its safe haven in Sambisa Forest, from regrouping.

The task force was set up by Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Niger and the Republic of Benin to tackle Boko Haram insurgents. The Security Council, in a Presidential Statement, reiterated that terrorism should be combated in all forms to prevent its spread.

“The Council urged the Multinational Joint Task Force participating countries to further enhance regional military cooperation and coordination. The Force should deny safe haven to Boko Haram, and facilitate the restoration of civilian security and the rule of law in areas liberated from the militant group.”

FG DELEGATION ON CONDOLENCE VISIT TO BORNO OVER ACCIDENTAL BOMBING AT RANN BY NAF FIGHTER JET

A high-level federal government delegation has arrived in Maiduguri in connection with Tuesday's deadly accidental bombing of an IDP camp in Rann by a Nigerian Air Force fighter jet.

FG delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Aba Kyari visited Maiduguri to commiserate with the Governor of Borno State over the unfortunate accidental killing of some innocent civilians at Rann in Kala Balge, Borno State.

The delegation include, Minister of Defence, Brig Gen Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd); Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar.

TEXT OF PRESS BRIEFING BY MAJOR GENERAL LEO IRABOR COMMANDER OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE TODAY THURSDAY 23RD JUNE 2016 IN MAIDUGURI

1. In line with our tradition to keep the public abreast with the ongoing operation in the North East of Nigeria, it is my pleasure to address you today as our troops have continued to progress in the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs). I intend to mention some of the major operations carried out with the attendant successes recorded since our last meeting. During the period under review, the following operations were conducted:

a. Clearing Patrol around KALA BALGE General Area. On 7 Jun 16, troops on patrol made contact with BHT around TILANI, RANN and KALMA in KALA BALGE general area. Consequently, in the process one was killed while others who suffered gunshot wounds fled. Among the items recovered were 3 motorcycles and a bag containing the sum of N466,000.00 only. Additionally, 8 abducted persons made up of 2 adult females, 2 female teenagers and 3 male children were rescued from BHT captivity. However, one male minor sustained injury and has been treated at our medical centre. All the rescued persons are in our custody for further screening and profiling.

HOW NIGERIAN TROOPS ARREST FOUR BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS KINGPINS - ARMY

Troops of 3 Battalion, of 22 Task Force Brigade have made an unprecedented catch with the arrest of 4 Boko Haram terrorists Ameers (kingpins) at Rann, headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area today, Friday 22nd April 2016. The arrested kingpins specialized on various aspects of criminality to sustain the Boko Haram terrorists group in their areas.

According to Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director Army Public Relations , the four terrorists were arrested following a tip off by well meaning members of the public.

He said, subsequently, the troops conducted a cordon and search operation in the general area that led to the apprehension of the terrorist leaders, who contribute to the sustenance of the insurgency through their illegal trade specialization.

Mid-Night Battle: Borno villagers foil Boko Haram attack, kill 200 insurgents, arrest 10

The residents of Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area in north eastern part of Borno State  fought off invading Boko Haram gunmen in an early morning attack, killing at least 200 sect members with about 10 also caught alive, officials and locals from the area said

The insurgents had repeatedly attempted to attack Kalabalge, an agro-nomad community near the Cameroon borders, but failed to gain entry into the village on each attempt. Sources said the insurgents, numbering over 300 stormed Rann and adjoining villages around 4 am today but met resistance from the people who had knowledge of the impending attack
