Nigeria Customs, Navy intercept drug traffickers, recovers 26 bags of cannabis

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) attached to the Western Marine Command have engaged suspected drug traffickers in a shootout in Badagry, Lagos.

At the end of the operation which lasted for hours, several of the fleeing traffickers sustained varying degrees of injury.

Twenty-six bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp being smuggled into the country from Ghana were recovered. 

The custom operatives were able to intercept the items after a tip-off while they were on patrol at Tanfi Island in Badagry. 

 

How female suicide bombers kill eight at refugee camp in Borno state

Two female suicide bombers have killed at least eight people at a camp for people displaced by the jihadist Boko Haram insurgency in northeast state of Borno, a community near the cameroon border, security force member and a customs official said on Thursday.

The bombings happened around 8 a.m. (0700 GMT) on Wednesday in the town of Banki on the edge of Borno state, near the border with Cameroon. An attack in February on an internally displaced persons camp, also in Borno, killed 60 people.

Details of Wednesday's attack were slow to emerge as Banki is remote and largely disconnected from mobile phone networks. The state of Borno is where Boko Haram began their insurgency seven years ago. The group wants to create a state adhering to strict sharia law.

Joint Resignation: All 5 Deputy Comptroller-Generals Of Nigeria Customs Quit In Protest

The all five deputy comptroller-generals of Nigeria customs service have quit the service in protest. 

In a one-page letter jointly signed by the five of them, the senior officers of the Nigerian Customs Service said they were all unanimously and voluntarily resigning from the service of the Nigeria Customs Service having risen to the position of Deputy Comptroller-General.

However, it was gathered that the officers were scheduled to proceed on annual leave but they opted to unanimously resign.
