IT IS time for the international community to take another look at the international legal instruments and conventions that govern warfare and conflicts in the light of the very unconventional and brutal operations of terrorists and insurgents around the world today.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, expressed this view today during a meeting he hosted with members of the United Nations Security Council who are on a visit to the country.

‘We must, on a global scale look again at how to deal with these new challenges. We need to look at the governing conventions, what type of legal categories, recognition of law we should give them (to the perpetrators of terror and insurgents). We need to re-examine how to deal with these individuals according to law,” Osinbajo, himself a law professor noted.

At least 8 civilians killed in second Afghanistan blast today

KABUL: At least eight people were killed and 18 injured Monday morning when a motorcycle bomb exploded in a crowded market in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, local authorities said.

“Our initial information is eight people were martyred, and 18 others were wounded, all the victims are civilians,” the Badakhshan provincial governor’s spokesman Naweed Froutan told AFP, adding that the death toll is set to rise.

Chief of Army declares 100 Boko Haram terrorists wanted

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, launched the circulation of large posters carrying photographs of wanted Boko Haram terrorists including the supposed leader of the insurgents, Abubakar Shekau.

The large posters, with inscription written in various languages of Nigeria, also had phone numbers which the public could easily call or text to indicate which of the characters in the numbered photographs they know or have information of.

The photo posters was launched as part of the counter terrorism material packaged by the Directorate of Army Public Relations.

Boko Haram and Refugee situations of the Displaced Persons

As the Islamist Boko Haram terrorists ceaselessly continue their jihadise attacks, killing and kidnapping of the innocent Nigerians living in the North Eastern parts of the country, many have been displaced and their conditions worrisome.

Nigerian government is neither committed to fighting the insurgents to any stand still nor ready to put an end to the kidnapping and rescue the kidnapped by the sect nor pay any attention to those displaced.

Soldiers arrest 13-yr-old girl for spying for Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army Unit in Gwoza, Borno State, have arrested a 13-year-old girl for spying on the military formation for the members of Boko Haram.

NAN reports that a security source confirmed that the soldiers who picked up the girl were said to be stunned when they found an AK 47 assault rifle in her residence. It was further gathered that the girl led the soldiers to three other girls who were also said to have been recruited by Boko Haram to spy on military formations.

However, the source did not say whether the soldiers found any lead in the residents of the other girls said to be undergoing interrogation.

More than 100 Killed in Boko Haram Attack In Borno As 20 Boko Haram Members Arrested By Youths

More than 100 persons were reportedly killed during Tuesday's attack on three border communities with Cameroon during an insurgency attack by members of Boko Haram sects.


The Tuesday's attack, it was learnt was a retaliatory one on the three villages of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in local government area of troubled Borno state. A resident of Maiduguri, who lost his brother in the attack, told journalists on condition of anonymity that the armed men dressed in military camouflage drove into the three communities of Attagara, Agapalawa and Aganjara in the Gwoza Local Government, northeast Borno State, in military vehicles.

They subsequently gathered the unsuspecting villagers and opened fire on them.
Gwoza is located on the southeast of Borno state and about 135 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the capital of the state presently ravaged by Boko Haram insurgency.

UPDATES: Boko Haram Gunmen Attack Mosque in Yobe, Kill 20

Islamist Gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram militants have attacked a mosque in northeastern Nigeria state of Yobe and not less than 20 Muslim worshipers have been confirmed dead.

The Boko Haram Jihadists  who had earlier threaten Muslim clerics who preach against their Islamic extremist doctrine, attacked village in Yobe state just before dawn Saturday and killed 20 worshipers who went for the first prayer of the day.

AP reports that the survivors of the attacked confirmed that the Islamist Militias opened fire in a mosque in northeastern Nigeria and gunned down at least 20 worshippers.

A civil servant Musa Ibrahim said the gunmen struck before dawn Saturday as residents of Buni Gari village were gathering for the first prayer of the day. The village is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of the Yobe state capital, Damaturu in an area that has been attacked on numerous times.

Army begins operation to stop clashes in Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa

The Nigerian Military troops has started a major anti-terrorist operation in three states in the North Central region of Nigeria. Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, made the hint on Monday that the operation is aimed at putting an end to criminal activities in the concerned states.

The three troubled North-Central states are Nassarawa, Plateau and Benue where there are incessant communal clashes. Olukolade said military troops have been deployed to these states to launch offensive attack and bring an end to the recent killings and property destruction in the affected areas.

Defense spokesperson said the army operations in the three state will focus on Internal Security, capturing and neutralizing all criminal hideouts. He affirmed that the Nigerian Air Force, Police and other security agencies are also participating in the operation designed to restore peace in the troubled states.

Bandits and insurgents operating in parts of the North are ferried in by helicopters along with their weapons likely from foreign lands to launch their attacks, the Senate heard in Abuja yesterday.
During a debate on a motion on the violence in several northern states, Senator Abu Ibrahim from Katsina revealed that attackers of some of the affected places were not local people but were air-dropped from somewhere else along with their supplies.

Updates: Boko Haram Stage a Comeback Battle in Maduguri, Attack Military Barracks

Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno state has just experienced three large explosions suspected to be a major bomb attack.

Boko Haram Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Giwa Barracks, one of the strategic military barracks in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri at about 7.30am on Friday.

It could not be ascertain if the explosions led to deaths or destruction of any kind. But our sources states that the three explosions were heard across the city.
