PanamaPapers: CSNAC Urges CCB To Investigate David Mark For False Asset Declaration, He was linked to eight active companies

The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), has petitioned the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), demanding an investigation the prosecution of a former Senate President David Mark over constitutional violations and false declaration of assets during his tenure.

In a petition to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, and ‎signed by the CSNAC Chairman Olanrewaju Suraju, the group said the alleged linkage of Mr. Mark, to at least eight offshore shell companies while holding public office in violation of the federal code of conduct laws. The discovery was made by the major international leak of financial documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

According to the Premium Times, "as a former senate president, Mr. Mark stands out among other notable Nigerians named in the files." The paper further averred, "the 68-year old former military officer spent the last 40 years covered by the investigation largely as public office holder. But he is widely seen to be far richer than his legitimate incomes could have provided."

Senator Mark is Nigeria’s immediate past Senate President and current Senator representing Benue South senatorial district of Benue State and he has been in the senate since 1999.

Anti-corruption coalition petitions EFCC over alleged financial recklessness by NAMA’s MD

An anti-corruption coalition, Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to investigate the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

In a petition signed by the chairman of the network, Olanrewaju Suraju, the CSNAC noted that it is in the receipt of various documents and evidence which it believe will further aid the Commission’s investigation into the books of the Agency.

The petition stated that, “Sequel to the arrest of the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority, Mr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam and commencement of investigation into activities and alleged cases of corruption and financial recklessness by your Commission, our network is in the receipt of and hereby forwarding same, various documents and evidence which we believe will further aid your Commission’s investigation into the books of the Agency.

Human rights lawyer, Bamidele Aturu has passed at 49

A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, is dead. A source close to him said the vibrant legal mind died of high blood pressure on Wednesday. He was age 49.

Aturu, who was reportedly rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja in the early hours of Wednesday, was confirmed dead by medical personnel later in the day.

The late Aturu obtained a first degree in Law from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Until his death, he was the Principal of Bamidele Aturu and Company in Lagos.

Commenting on the sad incident, a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, said he received the news as a shock.
