PRESS RELEASE: EDO STATE RE-SCHEDULED 2016 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

 IGP Charges Officers to be apolitical

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K Idris NPM mni, determined to ensure that the rescheduled Edo Gubernatorial Election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace and security has ordered the activation of the revised operation plan for the governorship election slated to hold throughout the State on Wednesday, 28th September, 2016.


2. The revised election security operation plan will guarantee free, fair and credible election, secure electoral process, enable eligible voters exercise their franchise freely and voluntary, protection of election materials and officials, ensure adequate security before, during and after the election.
3. In the same vein, protection of life and property in the entire State will be of paramount importance. However, the Police will be firm and decisive in dealing with any infractions of the law, actions and activities that constitute breach of peace and contrary to public order.
4. For avoidance of doubt, the Police will mobilize and deploy adequate resources and personnel to prosecute the Edo Governorship election conclusively.
5. To this end, in order to achieve the expected outcome of credible election acceptable to all stakeholders, the police will deploy:
(i) Twenty Five Thousand (25,000.00) conventional Police Officers.
(ii) Tactical Teams which include:-
a. Police Mobile Force [PMF]

Lagos boat mishap: 12 die, five injured

12 persons have been confirmed dead with five rushed to the hospital following a boat mishap  in Festac, Lagos on Tuesday.The incident was said to have occurred at a river at fourth avenue, opposite 41 road junction at about 11:10pm.

It was learnt that the location were the mishap occurred has been a hot belt for oil vandals in the neighbour.
General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Femi Osayintolu and spokesman, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye  while confirming the disaster, said 11 bodies have been recovered dead.
