INEC RETREAT ON PUBLIC SERVICE RULES PART OF RESTRUCTURING, BY INEC SECRETARY

The Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, has affirmed that the one-day retreat for the Commission’s Directors on Communications And Public Service Rules And Procedures was part of INEC’s effort to give effect to, and consolidate, last year’s restructuring of the Commission.

Mrs. Ogakwu stated this yesterday at a one-day retreat for the Commission’s Directors at the Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja.

The Secretary to the Commission said progress would have been accomplished if the Directors imbibed the lessons and insights proffered by the Resource Persons.
She observed that the Resource Persons, drawn from Teamspirit Consult Limited, had by their rich presentations, intellectually stimulated the appetite of the Directors.

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Hon. Chairman, Dr. Mahmud Magaji, observed that the retreat was very useful.

He called on the Commission to cascade the retreat to other Directing staff and extend it to two days rather than one day.

Dr. Magaji suggested that in due course, the retreat should be practical, hands-on and with exercises being performed by participants. That way, he argued, the participants would derive maximum benefit from the retreat.

The Director, Human Resources Management, Musa H, Adamu, who hosted the retreat, said it was meant to refresh and deepen the knowledge of the Directors about Service Rules And Procedures.

He explained that the retreat was envisioned by the Strategic Plan 2012-2016, stressing that the Resource Persons were deliberately choosen for their hands-on experiences.

Mr. Adamu said the Commission had directed the Human Resources Management Department to review the existing Staff Condition of Service. He further said the department’s proposal, reflecting improvement in incentives, would soon reach the Commission.

The Head of the Commission’s Registry, Adamu Bello, thanked the Resource Persons for making the Directors realize that the Registry was the engine room of the Commission’s administration and repository of data.

Three papers were presented at the retreat. They are: Perspectives On The General Sources of Information and Forms of Official Communications In The Federal Public Service by Mr. Wali M. Kurawa; Establishment of Registry, Classification And Numbering of Files, In-coming and Out-going Mails by Dr. Dele Gege; and Deepening Understanding of Discipline And Code of Ethics. In Nigeria Public Service by Dr. Gabriel A. Gundu.
