Members of the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday passed a vote of confidence on the senate president, Bukola Saraki, a move apparently aimed at shoring up support for the embattled leader who is currently facing corruption charges.
Though It was reported that there was an uproar in the senate over vote of confidence on Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Senators in near fisticuffs. 83 senators passed vote of confidence in Saraki.
Senator Babajide Omoworare whose name was included as supporter dissociated himself from the motion.
Senator Saraki was arraigned last week before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false declaration of assets.
Saraki denied wrongdoing and said the trial was politically motivated. The senate met Tuesday for the first time since Mr. Saraki appeared before the tribunal and swiftly passed a vote of confidence on him.
