Senate President Saraki Blast Political Cabals, Commends Buhari For Non-interference

The embattled president of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Bukola saraki has insisted that he will stand strong in the face of persecution and calling on other lawmakers to stand with him in defence of the legislature.

Saraki stated this during a welcome address to senators while making reference to his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, reiterating on his submission to rule of law and said that he was been tried because he became the senate president “against the wishes of some political cabal”

Senate President also stated that the laws of Nigeria does not consider any external influence within the legislature while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for refusing to intervene in the politics of the national assembly
Mr. Saraki promised to defend democracy and safeguard the autonomy of the Senate.

Meanwhile, on the legislative task ahead he called on the senate to be prepared to put in extra hours in view of days that have been lost

He registered his deep sadness on the death of Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, adding  that the Senate shall determine the number of Nigerians that died, and that the senate will work with Saudi Arabia to determine the remote cause of the tragedy

On the coup in Burkina faso, Saraki commended ECOWAS and president Buhari for ensuring that constitutional order is restored

Senator Saraki who spoke on his attendance of IPU meeting said that global support was mobilised for Nigeria and argued that the military successes must be complimented by strong economic strategies.

He commended the military for successes and achievements adding that the greatest challenge facing the country is in aspect of the economy and Pledged to work with the executive to review the 2015 budget

the Senate president also stressed that the legislative agenda must take precedence over any other issue for the good governance and well being of the country urging lawmakers to ensure passage of bills that will expand the living standard of the people.

He pledged the commitment of the senate to set up e- parliament to engender greater participation of Nigerians in the legislature

On the much anticipated ministerial list ministerial lists, saraki said the appointment will help boost governance

Urged the lawmakers to consider the overall interest of the country in screening the ministers devoid of politics.
