BREAKING NEWS: Nigerian doctors call off strike t tackle Ebola Outbreak

The Nigerian Medical Association [NMA] has suspended its 65- day old strike action i order to tackle Ebola outbreak  in the country.

The body’s President, Kayode Obembe, told journalists the association’s delegates resolved to suspend the industrial action in the interest of the ongoing public health issues in the country (Ebola outbreak).

He said all Nigerian doctors are expected to report to work on Monday.

Mr. Obembe said the delegates also resolved among others that the Federal Government recall all suspended resident doctors without punitive measures.

Liberia President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf imposes night-time curfew in a bid to stem Ebola outbreak. The country is already under a state of emergency, and the latest action also will block all movement in and out of West Point, home to at least 50,000 people. 

Over the weekend, residents angered over the placement of an Ebola center in West Point looted the facility and 37 patients left who were supposed to be under surveillance.

Armed men claiming that “there’s no Ebola” in Liberia raided a quarantine centre for the deadly disease in Monrovia overnight, prompting at least 20 patients infected with the deadly virus to flee, a witness said Sunday.

“They broke down the door and looted the place. The patients have all gone,” said Rebecca Wesseh, who witnessed the attack and whose report was confirmed by residents and the head of Health Workers Association of Liberia, George Williams.
