Lagos Government Releases N10bn For Completion Of 114 Local Government Roads

The Lagos State Government has released the sum of N10.8billion to date to ensure completion of the ongoing construction of 114 roads across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State by the end of June, 2016

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Muslim Olohuntele Folami on Wednesday, the Government said that the construction of the roads was made possible through tax payers’ money.

The Commissioner said that the second stage payment of N5.5billon released on Monday represents 61 per cent of the total cost of the 114 roads at N17.85bn.

Local Government Reforms Crucial To Grassroot Development - Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday expressed optimism that the newly amended laws on the Local Government system in the state would bring about a massive reform in the third tier of government, which would in turn translate into a renaissance to create prosperity and good governance for the people.
Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Lagos House, Alausa during the signing ceremony of three amended laws, described the Local Government as unarguably the most critical level of governance in the State, a development which he said necessitated the need for the reforms.
