War Against Corruption: EFCC Arrests Former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa

As the war against corruption continues the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last night arrested, on fraud allegations, a former governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa.

Governor Udenwa is accused of receiving N350 million which had been diverted from last year’s presidential campaign of former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr. Udenwa was last night grilled by EFCC investigators for several hours at their headquarters, following which he was released after signing a bond to repay the funds to the federal government within two weeks.

ABUJA (AFP) – Nigeria’s new central bank chief, Mr Godwin Emefiele, on Wednesday vowed to ensure economic stability to create jobs and boost growth, as lawmakers approved his appointment after the controversial suspension of his predecessor.

The former Zenith Bank boss will replace Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was removed last month on president Jonathan charges of “financial recklessness and misconduct”and the Nigerian Upper legislative lawmakers (the Senate) unanimously approved his appointment following nearly two hours of questioning that was broadcast live on television.
