INEC Chair: BUYING OF VOTERS’ CARD WOULD BE FUTILE IN 2015

The Nigerian Politicians who buy voters’ cards from unsuspecting members of the public would not be able to use them in the 2015 general elections, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Attahiru Jega has said.

Jega said this is because plans have been concluded to issue all duly registered voters with chip-based permanent Voter Cards swiped with card readers to ensure 100 percent authentication and verification of voters.

He said this yesterday at the dialogue between INEC and female stakeholders in Abuja.

He said  plans have also been concluded to roll out a programme of Continuous Voter Registration nationwide.

Jega said the commission will soon release a gender policy designed to deepen gender equity within the commission and in the provision of electoral services in line with global practices.

He said the commission through the gender policy will encourage affirmative action in political parties to mainstream gender in the processes and activities.

Earlier , Chief Executive officer of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Ayisha Osori said the event was organized for female stakeholders to engage with INEC about their aspirations and concerns as the country prepares for the 2014 and 2015 elections.
