According to the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, "Today, the 8th Senate, passed the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill (SB. 173 and 183) for its third and final reading."
"Although the Corps has been operational for some time, the passage of this Bill has helped to create a legal framework that will institutionalize the Peace Corps."
"This Bill will also empower more young people, and will contribute to bringing down Nigeria’s unemployment rate."
"It is my hope that once this Bill is signed into law by Mr. President, we can work on harmonizing the work of the Peace Corps with that of other security agencies. This is important because it will allow for a more coordinated and efficient response to the pervasive issues of insurgency, kidnapping and other crimes that are confronting Nigeria"
