AGF to Saraki, others: Offer your explanation to court
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) has responded to claim by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and others that the charge of forgery against them amounted to an abuse of the principle of separation of powers
The AGF, who justified his decision to initiate criminal proceedings against Saraki and three others over the allegation that they were involved in the forgery of the Senate Order 2011, urged the defendants to take their argument before the court.
Malami, in a statement issued late Thursday by his media aide, Salihu Isah, said he was withing his constitutional powers to initiate criminal proceedings against anybody where any of the investigating agencies has established a prima facie case against such suspect.
The AGF, who faulted the arguments by Saraki and others named in the charge before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urged them to go before the court and explain their roles in the forgery case rather than accusing him of violating the Legislative arm.

New Railway Amendment Bill will Foster Economic Revolution - Saraki
Nigeria's Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Monday said the proposed Nigerian Railway Corporation Act (Amendment) Bill 2015 would bring revolution to Nigeria’s rail sector and also serve as a catalyst for economic advancement.
Saraki who made this remark while declaring open a-one-day public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Land Transport on the bill, said passing the bill would have a huge impact on the nation’s economy.
According to him, the bill was one of the high priority agenda of the National Assembly, adding that quick passage of the bill would foster reform in the rail sector and as well guarantee multiplier effects on the nation’s economy. “I sincerely hope that the proposed railway bill will lead to and usher a new era of growth and enablement for the private sector to participate more robustly and directly in the provision of rail services and railway infrastructure, while ensuring efficiency and sustainability.

Saraki - No due process in appointment of new NASS clerk
The President of the Senate and chairman of the National Assembly, Dr. Bukola Saraki has kicked against the appointment of Mohammed Sani-Omolori as the new Clerk for the National Assembly on Wednesday, with a directive to the National Assembly Service Commission to put all such actions on hold for more consultations, as the appointment “did not follow due process.”
Sani-Omolori was, until his appointment, Clerk of the House of Representatives.
Saraki made this known in a letter dated April 21 by his Chief of Staff, Isa Galaudu, to Mr. Fika, chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, contending that the NASC should have first considered Ben Efeturi, who is currently the deputy clerk to the National Assembly, for the position to replace Salisu Maikasuwa, who is proceeding on pre-retirement leave this month.

Saraki's Trials and Wisdom of Ahitofel: Wetkas Crossexamination - Highlights
I am not a lawyer or CCT judge but I think Wetkas did well under crossexamination. Lawyers are trained to be adversarial in their questioning and they tend to go for the weakest links.
Like others, I fear the EFCC may botch this case but the overwhelming evidence cannot be explained or wished away. We don't have a jury system, the judge can see through the charade. The sophistry of Saraki's lawyers will be similar to the wisdom of Ahitofel .
The important points to note:
1. Saraki is the first Senate President of Nigeria to be docked.
2. He has desecrated the position and brought the seat into disrepute.
3. He confuses himself with the State and continues to make laws as an indicted criminal.

Defence lawyer appearing for the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in his ongoing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), on Tuesday continued the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Mr. Michael Wetkas.
Agabi, who started cross-examining the witness on Monday, dwelt on the details of about four petitions tendered by the prosecution in the course of the trial accusing Saraki of looting Kwara State while serving as governor of the state between 2003 an 2011.

Why Saraki Ignores PDP Senators, Congratulates Amaechi, 36 Other Ministers
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has congratulated all the 37 ministerial nominees whose confirmation were just completed by the Senate despite the protests and boycott staged by the PDP senators over Amaechi's confirmation.
Saraki sent his congratulatory message to the ministers shortly after the last nominee, Amaechi was confirmed, and Senate plenary has been adjourned till November 3rd.
Why Saraki ignored the protest of the PDP senator is still a subject of speculations as they constituted the buck of his supports in maintainind ae firm control of the senate presidency,
Saraki's bid to stop the CCT trial has failed as the Appeal Court ruled against his pleas! Losing the support of the PDP senator may be another big blow to his determination to still remain as the President of the Nigerian Senate.

Ekiti Poll: Saraki says Jonathan can lose re-election
Former Kwara State governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to live up to expectation of Nigerians because he could lose re-election next year if he failed to do the will of the people. Saraki said the outcome of the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State, in which the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, trounced the incumbent governor and the candidate of the APC, Mr. Kayode Fayemi, was a signal that the President could lose re-election in 2015.
The former governor, who is currently a senator, said in a statement on Sunday that Fayose’s triumph was a victory for democracy and for the people of Ekiti State.
He said, “It is important that around the clock, people want to be engaged. This should also serve as a lesson to Mr. President that as an incumbent it is very possible to lose in Nigeria if he fails to do the will of the people.
