Why Senate Regects Magu Nomation Again

Nigerian Senate again rejected the nomination of the Acting EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the second and final time.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki while presiding at the plenary said with the rejection of Magu, he seizes to be Acting Chairman of the EFCC. Adding that President Muhamadu Buhari should nominate another head for the anti-graft agency.

A confirmed report has that the State Security Service has insisted the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, is not fit to head the anti-graft agency because he lacks integrity, a lawmaker has said.

Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Ibrahim Magu has commended Mr. Adamu Dan Musa, the Commission’s head of operations in Kano Zonal Office, who led a team that recovered over $9.8million from the residence of a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu in Kaduna. 

He said the officer and his team demonstrated courage, professionalism and integrity in executing the raid that yielded the astounding discovery. He called on staff of the Commission to emulate the team as the EFCC is poised to take the fight against corruption to new heights.

Insurgency: Magu Reassures IDPs

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has told persons displaced by the insurgency in the North East not to be demoralized by their present predicament but to remain strong, adding that there will soon be an end to their travail.

He gave the assurance Saturday, December 31, 2016 during a visit to two internally displaced persons’ camps in Abuja. “I am aware that most of you never expected that you will find yourselves in this predicament. 

There are things we as human beings cannot change. But whatever situation we find ourselves, we can make the most of it. That is the reason I am here today to tell you that I feel your pains and to celebrate this special season with you”, Magu said.

We find it worrisome that the confirmation of the head of such a strategic anti-corruption agency is taking so such a long time, having been first appointed in November 2015, and worse still at a time when the nation is reinvigorating the fight against corruption. 3 ARRESTED IN ENUGU FOR IMPERSONATING EFCC ACTING CHAIRMAN, IBRAHIM MAGU

The Enugu Zonal office of the EFCC has arrested three persons: Chukwuma Charles Eze, Ogechi Emeka Okwuosa and Anokwuru Miriam Iheoma, (F) in a case of impersonation and attempt to obtain money by false pretences from the Anambra State Secretary to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Prince Casmir I. Ajulu. 

The arrest of the trio came on the heels of a petition that a text message was purportedly sent on 26th March, 2016 by the Acting Executive Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu to Ajulu’s phone requesting him to send a list of names of House of Representatives designates that want their Certificate of Return for the last election held in Anambra State. 

Several subsequent messages from two mobile numbers belonging to Glo and MTN network respectively demanded from the petitioner the sum of N16,0000,000.00 (Sixteen Million Naira Only) assuring him that the EFCC Chairman was in touch and working with the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

No hiding place for money launders anymore - Magu

Acting Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has reiterated that there is no hiding place for money launders as he promised that the law will surely catch up with them. 

He made this position known today at a one day workshop organized by the Nigeria Bar Association in collaboration with the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption titled: “Anti-Corruption, Ethics of The Legal Profession and Justice Sector”, at the Rockview Hotel, Abuja.

As part of the EFCC’s renewed effort to take the anti-graft fight to the grassroots and in fulfillment of its preventive mandate as being championed by the acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, the Director, Public Affairs Department, Osita Nwajah, paid courtesy visit to some media organizations in the South East. 

The tour took him to NTA, Enugu; Dream FM Enugu; Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Enugu network station and News Agency of Nigeria, NAN. 

At Dream FM, Nwajah was received by the station’s Managing Director and Head of Operation, Mr. Antonio Cruise and Nwosu Chidioze respectively; at FRCN, it was the zonal director, Ike Ken Okere, who expressed his delight in the visit, saying it was good in fostering institutional cooperation for the greater good of the country. 

EFCC Partners Microsoft on Anti-Graft War

The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has re-affirmed the Commission’s preparedness to strengthen relationship with Microsoft Nigeria Limited with a view to effectively tackle corruption in Nigeria.

He gave this assurance on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, while receiving the country’s representative and managing director of Microsoft Nigeria Limited, Kabelo Makwane, who was at the Commission’s Head Office, Abuja, on a visit.

We Don’t Chase Innocent People, Anyone Invited By EFCC Cannot Come Out Clean, Says Magu

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on Thursday said there is no one who would “come out clean” after honouring the invitation of the anti-graft agency.

Speaking on Question Time, a programme on Channels Television, Magu said the commission carries out thorough findings before inviting suspects.

He denied the allegation that the EFCC had turned into a tool for political witch-hunt, saying the commission is only after “thieves.”

EFCC, NLRC Strengthens Partnership Against Lottery Fraud

The Director General of National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC, Adolphus Joe Ekpe, has again reiterated his firm commitment to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in tackling lottery scam and economic crimes in the country. 

He said the synergy became imperative as both agencies are strategic to the success of the anti corruption campaign which is one of the cardinal focus of the present administration. 

Ekpe gave this hint on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 during a maiden joint press briefing with the Acting Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu held at the EFCC’s Head Office, Abuja.
