Saraki Mourns Amodu Shuaibu

The Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Saturday expressed grief over the death of a former boss of the Super Eagles, Coach Amodu Shuaibu and said it is yet another colossal national loss.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, commiserated with the immediate family of the late Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the unfortunate incident.

He described the incident as particularly sad coming barely 72 hours after the country lost another national sports hero, Coach Stephen Keshi.

Saraki Says Democracy Remains Best Solution to our National Problems

The Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has commended Nigerians for working to sustain democracy in the past 17 years despite the various challenges the country has encountered within the period.
In a statement to mark this year's Democracy Day, signed on his behalf by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki described democracy as not only the most globally accepted system of government but also the best solution to the problems confronting a multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious society like Nigeria.

He said in the last 17 years, the electorate have become more discerning and sophisticated as the nation has got to the point that people elected to the various offices are now conscious of the fact that they are under constant watch and when they fail to meet the expectation of the voters, they will be given the red card.

Nigerian Senate to launch transparency and delivery commission

The Nigerian Senate is to inaugurate an independent Transparency and Delivery Commission (TDC), as part of measures to review and improve the oversight systems and tools of the Senate.

The measures which was in line with the Legislative Agenda approved by the Senate, was announced by the President of the Senate Dr. Bukola Saraki, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser (Media and Communication), Yusuph Olaniyonu.

Olaniyonu disclosed in the statement that the Commission would be led by a working group consisting of a world leading research institution and a partner institute in Nigeria with an internationally acclaimed anti-corruption expert acting as the advisor.

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has commiserated with the government and people of Edo State over the call to glory of the Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, as he said "we have lost a People's monarch.

In a statement by the Special Adviser, Media & Publicity to the President of the Senate, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki described the late Oba as a just, fair-minded, courageous, benevolent and a people's monarch who lived his entire life in the service of his people as a prince and king while also serving the nation as a bureaucrat and diplomat of high repute.

The Senate President who received the news of Oba Erediauwa's transition with great shock said, "a glorious chapter in the annals of the Benin Kingdom has just come to a close. My grief stricken heart however goes out to the immediate family of the Oba, the Benin Traditional Council, the people and Government of Edo State, over the glorious but yet sad exit of the Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa - our highly revered King.
