EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: INEC HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS FORUM TO SOLICIT SUPPORT FOR CVR EXERCISE

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Edo State, Sam Olumekun mni organised a one-day stakeholders forum on the forthcoming Continuous Voters Registration Exercise holding from 22nd – 26th June, 2016.

The occasion which took place at National Orientation Agency Hall, Benin City attracted Chairmen and Secretaries of 23 Registered Political Parties in the state, the Commissioner of Police and other members of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), Civil Societies Organisations (SCO), Women Organisations. Others were Muslim and Christian Religious Groups such as FOMWAN, JDPC, CAN and PFN.

The gathering is to update participants on INEC’s programmes and activities put in place before the forthcoming Governorship election slated for September 10, 2016. The REC solicited the support of the participants and other stakeholders in achieving free, fair and credible Governorship Election come September 10, 2016. He said the Commission is committed to hitch-free, transparent CVR and through effective use of men and technology. He urged political parties to play by the rule and avoid foul and provocative languages during campaigns.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole orders demolition of kidnappers’ den in Benin

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State on Wednesday ordered the demolition of a block of four flats identified as a hideout of kidnappers in the state, which he would supervise by himself.

Oshiomhole, who gave the directive when four suspected kidnappers were paraded before him by officers of the State Security service, SSS, in Benin, said that the den of kidnappers located along Sapele Road in Benin City would be destroyed according to the dictates of the law. “I am obliged to obey the directive of the law, which is that any property used for kidnapping has to be brought down.

Edo Governor, Adams Oshiomhole Cancels APC Ward Congress in 7 LGAs

Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has announced the cancellation of Tuesday ward congress of APC in south senatorial district of the state. 

Oshimhole, on Thursday announced the cancellation of Tuesday ward congress of All Progressives Congress (APC) in south senatorial district of the state due to what he termed "large scale irregularities" in the conduct.

Announcing this during a press briefing at Government House, Benin City, Oshiomhole said findings while reviewing the conduct showed that the official appointed to conduct the exercise muddled up the exercise by refusing to show up at congress venue.

Protest in Edo state over high electricity tariff

Residence of Benin City protested against the increasing tariff on electricity by the private power holders.
