Court Orders Worldwide Freeze Of $1.8 Billion In Assets Stolen By Kola Aluko, Jide Omikore And Atlantic Energy.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the Federal Government injunctions freezing assets and funds in and outside the country traced to two Nigerian businessmen, Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore, as well as their companies – Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited (AEDC), Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited (AEBD).

Omokore and Aluko are accused of benefiting from some shady transactions with the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

They are also said to be indebted to the government to the tune of $1.8 billion.

Justice O. O. Oguntoyinbo, in an ex-parte ruling, granted mareva injunctions restraining the duo from dealing with the funds in some local and foreign banks and assets in Nigeria and abroad, pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN), Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

DON'T PANIC: CBN assures public over EFCC clampdown on banks

Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) has assured the banking public and indeed financial stakeholders not to panic over the on-going investigations of some financial transactions in some banks by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The apex bank noted that such exercise is aimed at strengthening the financial sector and the economy, while assuring that all the banks would continue to do their normal businesses and meet their obligations.

The CBN, in its latest statement signed by the Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, said that it was fully aware and was indeed a part of the on-going investigations of certain financial transactions in some banks by law enforcement authorities, noting that it was also carrying out its own special examinations and investigations to ascertain the veracity of some allegations, as well as the extent and persons that might be involved in such activities.

IN the wake of new revelations of graft against her, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s disgraced former Minister of Petroleum, has continued to send emissaries to beg President Muhammadu Buhari for a reprieve over allegations of embezzlement for which she is being investigated. 

Over the weekend, reliable presidency sources told The Abuja Inquirer, that the former minister has reached out to “some close, personal friends” of the President to beg him to reign in the security agencies and give her a soft landing.

The diplomatic process that will ensure the extradition of suspected looters who have fled the country will dominate President Muhammadu Buhari’s discussions with his counterparts when 60 world leaders meet in the United Kingdom next month.
It was learnt on Friday that the President would at the summit explore ways of bringing to the country politicians who were being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

It was gathered that the outcome of the summit would speed up the extradition of individuals, including a former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro; a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu; and a former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Others are the ex-Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke; her son, Ugonna; and a former Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, whose house was raided in Abuja in January by the EFCC.
