R.I.P. Justice Niki Tobi, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court is dead

A former Supreme Court judge, Justice Niki Tobi has died. The Nation reports that the judge passed on last Friday at the National Hospital, Abuja, from an undisclosed ailment.

He was born in Esanma, Bomadi local government area of Delta State It was gathered that the late jurist, regarded in the nation’s legal circle as a highly brilliant judicial officer, had been ill for some time.

Sources at the Supreme Court said that the court was only informed on Monday about the jurist’s death and the movement of his corpse to the Garki hospital.

Justice Kutigi’s wife, Mariama, is dead

The wife of the Chairman of the ongoing National Conference, Idris Kutigi, is dead.

Mrs. Mariama died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Wednesday morning at about 2 a.m.

The death was announced by the leadership of the Conference when it resumed sitting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The conference, therefore, adjourned till Monday.

The presence of the security operatives, comprising the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, whose attention was drawn to the suspicious movement, actually heightened the tension by creating fears in the minds of the workers as the senior officers in the various offices directed their junior officers to lock up their offices and close for the day to avert any possible danger.
