NIGERIA RULING CLASS: FANTASTICALLY CORRUPT, FANTASTICALLY BINEPT, FANTASTICALLY INCOMPETENT, AND FANTASTICALLY INSENSITIVE - JAYE GASKIA

I know that the most topical issue in Nigeria for a while now and particularly today, at least for the ordinary citizen is the lingering phenomenon of unavailability, scarcity and significant spike in the price of petrol. And for very obvious reasons, not the least today’s astronomical hike in the pump price of the product, this issue will continue to dominate public discourse and shape public action for some time to come.

So knowing and understanding this why do I appear to be focused on corruption and the congenital and historically intrinsic incompetence and ineptitude and insensitivity of the Nigeria ruling class? The reason is simple. The substrate of corruption powered by impunity has contributing significantly to the nurturing of the incompetence, ineptitude and insensitivity of Nigeria’s ruling elites is what has brought us to this penkelemesi, that is this state of peculiar mess to borrow from the immortal expression of one of Nigeria’s first republic leaders, the late Adelabu of Ibadan.

Cameron’s comment: TMG berates UK, others, demands return of Nigeria’s looted funds

ABUJA – The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), a coalition of over 400 civic organizations in Nigeria, yesterday, berated Western Nations over a comment credicted to the British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron describing Nigeria as a fantastically corrupt country.

 

Consequently, the group demanded the return of Nigeria’s looted funds in the United Kingdom and other Western countries, allegeding them of pretending to love Nigeria. 

The Chairman of TMG, Com. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, in a statement made available today in Abuja, said UK and other Western countries had no moral justification to label Nigeria ‘a corrupt country’, when they were happy aiding and abating corrupt Nigerians. 

U.K, China to deploy advanced tracking technologies in the rescue of Chibok girls - Abati

As the search and rescue operations to rescue the kidnapped students of Government secondary School Girls in Chibok, Borno state continue. President Goodluck Jonathan has requested and received the assistance of British government in term of the deployment of an advance tracking technologies for the operation.

According to Dr. Reuben Abati, who is the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, President Jonathan spoke with the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, on the phone after meeting with Premier Li Keqiang of China, who is on an official visit to Nigeria, “asked and received a promise of the deployment of British Satellite Imaging capabilities and other advanced tracking technologies in support of the ongoing effort of the federal government”.

Abati said, “The President thanked Mr. Cameron, the British Government and people for their concern over the fate of the abducted girls and their willingness to provide concrete assistance to save the girls from the terrorists who seized them from their school.

Palestinian militants fire barrage of rockets into Israel

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired at least 130 rockets into southern Israel, the Israeli military said. No immediate casualties were reported. 

The military said its “Iron Dome” defence system intercepted at least three rockets, while the others fell in open areas.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said one rocket exploded near a gas station and another near a public library.

Police raised the level of alert in the south, saying the rockets struck along the length of Israel’s border with Gaza.
