Nigeria: Which Islam does Shekau profess?

By Abdulrazaq Magaji

The game did not begin today. Since the creation of man, criminals and swindlers have consistently invoked the name of God in perpetrating evil. It is commonplace to hear con men, impostors and outright evildoers claiming God spoke to them or they received some dubious vision to rationalise the perpetration of an evil act. The way people claim to relate to God, one would think the end of the world was here. And, if you thought God is about to strike people who break His laws or drop His name to perpetrate evil, then wait until you hear Abubakar Shekau, the tempestuous leader of Boko Haram.

RE: GEN. BUHARI COMMENTS ON NYANYA BOMBING & KIDNAP OF TEEN - Nafada

“This is an IMPORTANT STATEMENT from Gen Buhari and we MUST recognize it for what it is… one cannot help but see and discern the human side of Buhari far beyond political statements and promises” - JUI

Buhari's statement on the heinous Nyanya carnage is commendable, but uncharacteristically Buhari… no doubt as you pointed out, prepared by his spin doctors and image launderers.

It’s a far cry and vast improvement from the gaffe prone General, who is more given to incendiary inanities that further polarize our country and compound our ethno-sectarian schisms.
It is the sort of mature contribution we expect from a former Head of state, particularly one who aspires to be elected president of this multi-religious multiethnic country.
It’s also the sort of statement he should have made in the aftermath of the horrendous 2000 Kaduna Sharia riots, rather than publicly dissent from the NCS directive that Sharia states stand down.
