DEMOCRATIC TENETS::SENATE POLITICS - Ogunsanwo

“Out of the 11 Senators who are members of the APC North East caucus, eight voted for Ali Ndume while three voted for Sen Ahmed Lawan and since politics is a game of numbers, the candidate with majority of the senators emerged as leader

The Senate President must always do what the senators want and must even carry along his colleagues at all times. Saraki is very popular among us today because he is always respecting our opinion and usually doing what we want.

Many people did not know or understand what happened then. Truly, many of us prefer Ndume to Lawan. The fact that Ndume contested the post of Deputy Senate President and at that time and he sought the support of most senators, made it easy for him to get our support"-Sen Hamman Misau(Bauchi Central)
COROLLARY:

The Senators in the 8th Assembly are showing true democratic tenets and following it to the letter.They are against imposition from any quarter and any true democrat will applaud their action

Recall the APC SouthWest caucus in the same Senate who are 14 in number unanimously elected Sen(Prof) Olusola Adeyeye as the Chief Whip,they had no issue with the choice of Senator Olusola Adeyeye as the Chief Whip nominated by the party hence they elected him as their leader

I dont see any reason why anyone will blame the Senate President for inability of Sen Ahmed Lawan (Yobe North) to emerge as Majority Leader of the Eighth Senate as proposed by the leadership of the APC when he is so unpopular among his colleagues and he is a puppet from an unseen hand

Recall during the jostle for the Senate Presidency position,majority of the Senators from NorthEast caucus roundly rejected him,same scenario was repeated for the Majority Leader position

Its advisable that folks especially the online ones will try and understand the true picture of the politics in the Senate rather than running amok with distorted fiction.
