The Nigeria's senate has today confirmed the appointment of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman and successor of Prof Attahiru Jega after he was screened in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly.
Prof. Yakubu who answered all questions posed at him by the senators, stated that, he would not be intimidated in the discharge of his activities as INEC chairman.
Asked if he can withstand any pressure, intimidation to announce the winner of the election even if it does not favour the Federal Government who appointed him, he said, he would serve Nigeria and will do so without fear.
The senate also confirmed the appointment of other five commissioners; Adedeji Solomon Shoyobi (Commissioner), Dr Muhammed Mustapha Lekki (Commissioner), Hajia Amina Zakari (Commissioner), Dr Anthonia Taiye Okoosi (Commissioner) and Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo (Commissioner).
They are members of Independent National Electoral Commission.
