Remember Alhaji Bashir Tofa?

He was the man who contested the June 12, 1993 presidential election against the late Chief MKO Abiola.  Abiola was generally believed to have won that historic election which was unfortunately annulled by the military. In this interview, Tofa wonders whether anybody said Abiola won the election and he lost. Now a member of the Board of Trustees of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the elder statesman also speaks on the Buhari, Jonathan and Obasanjo administrations as well as other issues in the polity including the on-going war against corruption

It is about one year since the Buhari-led APC took over the leadership of this country. What is your assessment of the government vis-a-vis the promises made during its campaign?

President Jonathan performs below expectations; security agencies underrat Boko Haram – Obasanjo

After weeks of what appeared to be an undeclared truce, former President Olusegun Obasanjo continued his verbal assault on President Goodluck Jonathan and his government, when he admitted in an interview aired on the Bloomberg Television Africa that he was disappointed in the government, noting that the president had not performed to his expectation.

Chief Obasanjo, who fielded questions from Ijeoma Ndukwe, did not hide his disavowal of the government, especially the lackadaisical manner, he believed President Jonathan handled the Boko Haram issue. According to him, he had made intervention three years ago by visiting Borno State shortly after the sect bombed the United Nations building in Abuja, which he said was rebuffed by the government. He stated that if the government had acted on his recommendations, the Boko Haram menace would have ended.

Even an objective non-Muslim could see from the text of the mad dog's (Shekau) message that those messages are not of Islaam. Even the dreaded so-called Al-Qaeda network do not describe Islaam in a such a manner (that Islam is about killing).  Boko Haram is child's play when compared to 911 and the creation of Al-Qaeda network (google 'truth about al-Qaeda). 

I watched The Secret of the Seven Sisters last year on al-jazeera and understood how the West can completely destabilize any country because of oil. Don't we notice that Asari Dokubo and the Boko Haram guy's speeches are similar?

What I opined about same-faith ticket is clear. I do not care about the religion of the candidates provided they have the capability, competence and capacity to fight corruption, create jobs and develop our nation without discrimination. And these qualities can be ascertained from their track records in public service and the private sector.

I do not care whether the 2015 presidential ticket consists of Christian-Christian, Muslim-Muslim or Ifa-Ifa. In my 54 years of being a Nigerian citizen I did not feel oppressed when Gowon and Akinwale-Wey ruled this nation.

Neither did I feel specially privileged when the disciplinarian and patriotic Buhari-Idiagbon duo governed the country in very difficult times. No eyebrows were raised when Chief Awolowo picked Philip Umeadi as his running mate in 1979. I did hear the elderly bigots of today shout when Chief MKO Abiola chose Babagana Kingibe as his running mate in 1993.
