You did not show leadership credibility, Soludo Tears Dubious Okonjo-Iweals Apart

SULODO TO OKONJO-IWEALA

"... I hereby challenge your attempt to blame others for not saving for the rainy day. It is not a virtue when you are quick to appropriate all the credit when things are going well, but shift the blame when they go wrong.

You blame the state governors— who, according to you, have taken the Federal Government to the Supreme Court—not that a Supreme Court judgement forced your hands. For your information, the governors have never agreed to savings and always threatened court action even under Obasanjo. Why did we save under Obasanjo but not under Jonathan?.

Two keywords explain it: leadership and integrity. Governor Amaechi said the governors insisted on sharing the funds because they found out that you were illegally fiddling with the savings.

So, as Nigerians still wonder, if billions of dollars are now ‘missing’ under your nose, why should governors trust you to keep their money?. Do the states that have taken the federal government to the Supreme Court and refused to save also include the PDP governors—who are in the majority? If so, then it is fatal: even governors of your own party, PDP, do not trust you to keep their money!.

We are doing our best, we are seeing rays of hope – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan said in Abuja on Sunday that the Federal Government had no plans to increase pump price petroleum for now.

Jonathan, who gave this assurance at a Presidential Media Chat, noted that such action could not be taken without following due process and the consent of Nigerians.

“I have no plans now to change petroleum pump price, but if I have to do it, I will do it following due process’’, the President said.

He denied insinuations that his administration was not decisive enough to fight corruption in the country.

According to him, the federal government is doing everything possible to investigate and bring to book every corrupt public officer.

NIS Tragedy: Moro apologises for failed recruitment

Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has apologised to Nigerians over the recent botched Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment. He made the apology when he fielded questions from journalists in Abuja. “I want Nigerians to understand the motive and intention behind the entire process of an open and transparent exercise. This was the first of its kind in the ministry and it was intended primarily to give employment to Nigerians, irrespective of background and connections,” he said.

The minister added that the ministry planned to conduct an open recruitment in order not be accused of job racketeering and to correct the mistakes made in the conduct of previous exercises. Unfortunately, he noted, some applicants died, while several got injured in the process. “Whatever outcome we got from this exercise, positive or negative, I am the minister and I take full responsibility for it,” he said.

He lamented the unfortunate deaths that took place, asking for forgiveness and understanding from families of the deceased. “The deaths of these young Nigerians who would have added value to the human resource of the country is highly regrettable. I crave the highest level of understanding of every Nigerian. If we had foreseen these deaths, we would have stopped the exercise,” he explained.
