Senate To Investigate TSA, Pend Any Further Payment into the Account

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday put on hold any further payment into the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The upper legislate chamber, through thr motion sponsor by Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) & supported by over 35 Senators. 

Melaye leads the debate as the Senate debated the motion on the Abuse and Mismanagement of the Treasury Single Account Regime.

Senator Dino Melaye speaks about the TSA while observing a 1% charge of N2.5Trillion Funds amounting to N25Billion made to Remita.
Melaye added that the BOFIA Act as far as the activities of remittance are concerned violate it while calling to action to save the masses.


Senate Leader Ali Ndume takes the Floor saying the Senate should dispassionately look into the remittances to  the TSA


Senator Olaka Nwogu explains that the nation cannot continue to bleed while the investigations were underway so the payments should stop.

Senator Nwogu adds the prayer that "the CBN, FMF & other parastatals stop further payments into the TSA immediately, pending investigations"

Senator Joshua Chibi Dariye seconds the motion and the Senate passes it.


Senators Na'Allah (Kebbi South), Akpan (Akwa Ibom N/E), Gbolahan Dada (Ogun West) and Ali Wakil (Bauchi North) all speak on the motion. While Senator Olujimi (Ekiti South) says the TSA should capture Revenue and not Expenditure. She says what's happening is the 'Nigerian Factor'.


Earlier, the Senate moves on to the confirmation of nomination of Dr. William Babatunde Fowler for appointment as Executive Chairman of the FIRS and  refers the confirmation of Dr. Fowler's nomination to the Committee on Finance headed by Senator John Enoh (Cross River Central).


The Senate also confirmed the nomination of four other Persons as Managing Director and Executive Directors of  AMCON . They are;  Ahmed Lawan Karu - MD,  Kola Ayeye - ED , Eberechukwu Fortunate Uneze - ED ,  Aminu Ismail -ED


The Confirmation of the AMCON Nominees referred to the Commeettee on Banking, Insurance & other Financial Institutions led by Senator Rafiu Ibrahim. 

Senate is adjourned to Tuesday 17th November, 2015.
